Hi everyone!

I have just passed my CBT and have bought a Hyosung RT125, which i am using every day for work.

I have a question for all you biking/mechanical experts:

The Hyosung has a sprung side kickstand, so when i get on and move the bike into riding position it springs back up- which is fine. However when i put it down you have to hold it in place with your foot and then lean the bike onto it. This isnt great as if my foot slips slightly or if im putting it down on a slope the bike could go over if it springs back up. Does any one know if I can do anything about this- put a new non sprung one on, or remove the sprung action from mine? The bikes iI used on the CBT were unsprung side stands and i much prefered them.

The problem you have if you just remove the spring would be that the stand would just flap downwards.

It's probably best that you just get used to it. I'm afraid I don't know if you can fit any others. May be worth asking on an owner's specific forum?

I don't think you have many options, you might find an alternative aftermarket stand or you could try to lengthen the angle of the stand (when down), but you'll need to use a grinder on the stand stop (this is risky unless there is plenty of metal available to grind away) and it might not achieve the result you want.

This is also a problem on other Hyosungs like the XRX, due to the positioning of the spring mounts as well as the strength of the spring. I used a grinder on that, partly to lower the lean angle when parked, but also found it partially helped with the spring action. Alternatively you might find a slightly weaker spring might help.

You might just have to get used to it, at least you won't be able to ride off with the stand down.

Ask on korider.com, someone there might have a better option.

Just make sure that you're still applying the front brake and have full control of the bikes weight via the handle bars while you are attempting to use the side stand.

Well, my bike only has a centre stand so I'm not sure if that's great advice or not, but as said, best get used to it.
