After being made Redunadant back in May due to the company I worked for going under I'm now starting to get bored of my current day to day routine...

It consists of, get up-check job agencies/job sites four times a day-randomly blanket bomb local ( and now not so local ) companies with my CV and a cover letter, attend interviews if they come up-housework-Wii...

Occasionally I'll get the bike out if I have money for petrol and ride round to break the boredom, whilst I'm out I take notes of where else to drop my CV off, I'll nip to a mates on the off chance he's up as he works nights mainly, I'll go to other mates works and chat to them if they're on a break, if they aren't I just moon them and move on...

I've now watched every dvd and read every book I have in the house and I have a fair few of each, the Wii is starting to do my swede in, I'm fed up of sending my CV out, I'm fed up of filling in job applications, I'm fed up of job hunting as a whole, and I'm fed up of these four walls *etc etc etc*...

This isn't a rant, it's just a ' I wonder what others are doing in the same situation '...

So what's everyone else up to while and if they are out of work ?...

I thought most unemployed people frequented Wetherspoons most of the day. Its certainly where i'm off to in a minute to meet all my alcoholic chums.

Have you thought of some voluntary work? Training? Part time?

Even just be a good neighbour and see if there as old dears wanting their gardens tidied in exchange for a cuppa.

Take up fishing, an inexpensive way of passing the time.

Plenty to do, but it seems you have got into a routine.

Jeff, I can't afford beer let alone petrol half the time mate and petrol is going to get me to interviews beer wont... Laughing

Kwaker, training I hadn't thought of tbh, I'll look into that, the old dears round here have either family members or have somebody coming in to do the work or they do it themselves mate, and fishing ? I can't stand it, the last time I went fishing I was eight and we sat there for hours and all we caught was a cold, there's a picture of me sat there with a not so happy look on my face, so I don't think I'll be taking that up again anytime soon...

Good call on the training though... Thumbs Up

You could always be self employed like me with work being very slow. I went two months with only doing 7-8 hours per week, last 3-4 weeks have been mega, but I can see Xmas coming and my savings going even more. Glad I had a large nest egg for the hard times but it wont last for ever. Gordon Brown has a lot to answer for, just hope the next lot pull their fingers out.

I've been a bum since the start of February. Very bored now. Even getting bored of the things I was occupying myself with... Internet, guitars, PS2. Can't afford to spunk the petrol money on random bike rides any more.

I'm fed up, starting to worry but haven't reached depression yet. Laughing

Voluntary work is to fill a gap on your CV. Also gets you out of the house. Something like B.T.C.V can be a laugh if you're the out doors type. Did a stint in Wrexham years ago and loved it.

https://www2.btcv.org.uk/

EDIT/ It's not even boredom, I've been doing jobs around the house, putting up sliding doors etc. I just miss the money. Laughing

Is there any point to learning to speak Russian ?...

Other than being able to converse with Hot women ?...Just had a look at part time courses and I quite like the sound of it...

Speak Russian? Not for financial gains but if it's the boredom factor then why not.

When i was laid off November last year i managed to get onto a part time HNC at the local uni , got my housing and jobseekers and got a grant for the course , did 8 hours a week to finish off existing studies , so atleast if your out of work maybe you can improve something.

I'm doing Polish night classes in Jan as i only have a P/T position til further notice so finishing my HND now too , which if i stayed in the same dull job i'd never have considered again probably so for me its worked out ok.

You any good at writing? They say everyone has a good novel inside them (and judging by some of the crap I've read lately, everyone has at least three or four shit ones as well!). If you've ever read a book and thought "I could do better than that" then you could do worse than to try.

I would also have suggested voluntary work (that doesn't cost you petrol to get to) or doing a course of some kind.

I'll have been out of work for a year in November. I have no problem with boredom, just the dwindling savings.

Sounds like you need a hobby.

I`ve just had 6 weeks off work coz i wanted a break from it all but i`m bored out of my tits already so going back this week. Rolling Eyes

Dont know what to suggest other than try and do something positive instead of twiddling your thumbs.None of us really get much free time when we`re in jobs and its the one thing we moan about the most.....so make use of the time you`ve got while you can. It`ll be over sooner or later.

Writing a novel ?...I've thought about it in the past, got as far as characters basic storyline and then lost interest tbh...

I was trying to avoid the ' What do you do work wise ' as I've had many a varying role in my life to date but...I can weld, used to be a site fitter/welder*/read drawings ( although it's been years and they want coded now ) I can run a bakery from start to finish and clean it top to bottom ( worked for two major bakeries ), I can Spray-paint, laquer and wood stain anything from wood-large/small metal machines to bike/car wheels, I've been a cabinet maker aswell and I can actually turn my hand to anything...

But my main role is Warehousing, I can use any forklift on site although I only have Counter balance and Bendi/Flexi licenses and technically they are out of date but some will still accept them as I've done the courses for them, I've managed a team of eight people, and a team of two ( I have a Low tolerance for Numpties though ) I'm a first Aider, I can also handle office based work and I'm good at problem solving...

But there in lies the problem, there are few and far between warehouse jobs around unless you want to work shitty hours or for low pay, I've applied for three jobs in the last eight days that pay decent money with decent hours and without the hassle of being a team leader so fingers crossed on that one...

* I can't think of the job title but I used to be given a drawing and build machines/conveyors from a pile of plate steel-C channel and RSJ's in the corner, anything in size from a shoe box to a couple of houses ( I did a few conveyors that are in the Potteries )...

I left college in June and went on JSA about 4 weeks ago. The problem I'm having is every job, even the basic jobs like stacking shelves or sales assistant all seem to ask for experience. How can I get work experience if no one will give me a job in the first place? Rolling Eyes

At the moment I am applying for about 15-20 jobs a fortnight and I have received one letter and one email both stating I haven't got an interview.

I'm getting pretty bored, especially since all my mates left for uni a month ago. I tend to just watch day time TV, browse BCF and play on the xBox.

Funds isn't too much of an issue for me as I've saved up quite a bit of money from working when I was in college and the only outgoing I have is £10 a week rent to my parents.

well to everyone out of work my sympathies, but if your on the dole for 6 months you may be entitled to learn a new trade, I found out the other week when a mate of mine did his door badge training and got the badge for free, it cost me close to £600 was gutted cos I have had to have one cos of my jobs for the last 5 years and they last three years at a time might not be for everyone but even in security you can do what you want you turn up to work sit on your arse for 12 hours and go home easy enough for anyone with common sense, but in todays climate I realise no matter how shit the job be thankful you've got one.

I've recently become unemployed for the first time (my business finally succumbed to the recession). I stopped working two weeks ago. The killer is... I've got no driving licence until February, so no going out for a ride, no driving round looking for companies to mailshot my CV, can't even take a dog for a walk in a different place to the usual. Being in the motor trade it's pretty much essential to have a driving licence.

I would (if I had a licence) get a minimum wage driving job just to pass the time as it's incredibly boring being unemployed. As you say, it's a case of getting up, checking in the hope of something to apply for before realising you're worthless and trying to fill the day (I find ADVrider makes a good time filler). I did my first mailshot to all the local franchised dealers last Friday, but due to the postal strike I don't suppose they'll reach the destinations 'til tomorrow. Fingers tightly crossed.

I've read a couple of stories on there (mainly Nathan the postman's) but I can't read it for too long because it's white writing on a black background and it makes my eyes go funny Laughing

You're entitled to £200 towards training. That's all. The rest you pay yourself. £200 isn't enough. I had access to a hell of a lot more than £200and it still wasn't enough. Confused

Oh and there's a £300 kitty available at your advisor's discretion for "overcoming obstacles". PPE, car repairs etc if you need it should you have a guaranteed job offer.

Every moment I'm not at work, studying at university or out with friends I'm normally either on my laptop or playing a musical instrument. I play for hours every day some weeks. Might be worth picking something up.

If I had spare money to buy said instrument then I would, it has crossed my mind though that if I'd have bought that guitar I'd been looking at just before I was made redunadant then i could probably string something other that the Eastenders and Bonanza theme tunes together... Thumbs Up

Edit...Thinking about it when I was under twenty five everything was aimed at twenty five and overs and I couldn't wait untill I was that age...Now everything is aimed at the under twenty fives so it's all gone arse about face...So far being thirty is Cack...

Edit Edit...I have just found my Dads Harmonica, always wanted to play one, so now I'm going to do the neighbours heads in for a change...Oh Yes... Thumbs Up

Russian will give you a great insight into the way you speak other languages including English because of its grammatical formality and exactitude.
You will be able to talk to hot Russian chicks ( who are inevitably a pain as they are so high maintenance) and you can talk to me.
