Moving to uni

Moving into accomodation soon, just wondering if BCFers think it is a good idea to take my bike and chain it into a bike hut thingy (protect it from rain as it is sheltered) or just leave it at home in the garage which is about an hour away from the uni?!? On a plus note I have seen other bikes do this and also many nice bikes are left unchained etc as it is a campus and nothing would really happen....

PS I had also been flashed exactly two weeks ago (monday) and still no present through the post does this mean I haven't got one?!?

I left mine in a similar fashion on campus during my first year of uni, I found it one night knocked over, there was a heavy storm the night before so its possible it was blown over, as it did get blown over once before. I still don't know if it got knocked over or not, but its something to bear in mind student campuses contain drunk students and things can happen.

Odds are a lot less likely in one of those, that was where I usually parked but the one night I didn't it fell over. But yeah if you did place it between the two if it did get knocked it would just land on one of
the rails. Plus it would be fairly out the way, long as you aren't parked on a stumbling route then you should be ok.

but I just part exchanged my 125 runner for a cbr600 lol Mr. Green

but agreed that transport will become invaluable at uni....

Definitely take your bike with you, as others have said it comes in handy! Im not sure about in the halls, but the uni I go to as designated motorbike spaces and they have got car spaces for the halls so they should have something Thumbs Up

If it's a rack like that, put your chain over the top then wrap it tight through the top half of the forks, that way if someone does try to tip it, the chain will hold it up.

Take it from me, my bike got knocked over loads of times until I moved somewhere I could do this.

I have left all my bikes in sheds/shelters like that at uni for years...

Someone else on here was complaining about bike thefts in Plymouth, so I've not brought my bike up here yet Smile

I don't really have much issue with the no transport thing though as I live close enough to uni and the centre that it doesn't matter Smile

It shouldn't be a problem. However if it's brand spanking new I would be a bit dubious. As someone said you get ALOT of drunken idiots prowling the campus at night.

Having my bike available while at university has been amazing. I would recommend trying it if at all possible, even if it means going back home to get it Thumbs Up
