Ok BCF, hat can you come up with.

I have a headache, what an I do to solve this using normal household items?

I'm not going to go and drink bleach or something so sensible suggestions only please.

Take some paracetamol, put a cold flannel on your forehead and have a lie down.

If you know the cause of your headaches though, you can cure it. I only get headaches when I am dehydrated so maybe try drinking some water.

I try and avoid drugs prescription or otherwise as much as possible I find a nice relaxing bath some soft low volume music and in extreme cases a nap help no end, failing that and I am serious sexual encounters seem to help must be something to do with the endorphines released.

If ok to take over the counter meds then paracetamol and ibuprofen. One is a painkiller, the other is a anti inflammatory. The combination works well.

Otherwise darkened room with or without music (for some reason I find Radio 5 can be relaxing for me).

HTH Thumbs Up

Honest answer is exercise - BCF won't like this, I know, but it's a good way to cure a lot of issues including headaches, tension and various bits of numbness in your hands and arms. I visited a physio a couple of weeks back. Explained that along with a dull thudding head (like, almost un-noticeable unless you think about it), sometimes my right hand has pins and needles. Sometimes when I'm on the bike, it goes numb too. It's my mouse hand at work, I use a PC most of the day. I thought the bike thing was down to vibes in the bars. Seems not, it's all linked.

She told me about the nerves running up your neck and any muscular inflammation in that area could compress the nerves and give any of the symptoms... She kneaded the muscles in my neck a little (not much, I wouldn't have thought she magicked anything away!) and told me I've got a few tension issues about there. At first I scoffed, and thought it was a load of hippy mumbojumbo but after trying the exercises for two consecutive days I noticed a difference. I don't get numb hands any more unless I@ve been on the bike for a LONG time. Mouse hand isn't cold, and most importantly, the dull thud has gone...

Look here (particularly the flexions and the neck retraction), it's pretty much the same information I was given on a leaflet.

Your mileage may vary. Thumbs Up

I get severe headaches. I suffer from hatband headaches and allergies to food which cause headaches. I permanently have a headache some days I can filter the pain out but its still there if that makes sense. Other days it's chronic. If you don't want to take pills etc etc i suggest a bath and a cup of tea with 3-4 slices of lemon squeezed into it.

This is what I use now since I became addicted to paracetamol and ate them like smarties. I also don't eat the foods or drink anything i'm allergic too it saves in pain really lol.

I currently have the most excruciating headache I think I've EVER had. In my 20 years of life.
I just took a Paracetamol 500 hoping it will help. I just slept for a couple of hours thinking the pain would get better, but when I woke up it was even worse! It's so bad it makes me feel sick now and then and has been going on all day but it's reached its peak.
I don't know what I'll do if that pill doesn't work...

I have drunk a load of water as I remember at work today feeling thirsty all the time and not drinking because I wasn't near a tap or anything.

Lots of fags and not moving much seem to have helped aswell. Still there but have no paracetamol or anything atm.

I'm thinking/hoping I might just be dehydrated. I'm gonna try to drink a litre or so of water in the next half hour and see if that helps. I just had a steamy shower and it was really weird. When I put my head directly under the water (40 C) it felt kind of cold. But really hot on my body.
Still hurts like a bitch but slightly less from the paracetamol

Try sex, with somebody else or without; an orgasm releases endorphins, nature's own painkillers.

I'm almost sure I'm dehydrated now. If I press my thumb with another finger, it takes almost a second to rebound Shocked
I've been told that's how you check. Now the question is how long does it take to rehydrate?

If you do have a migraine the only cure I've ever found is time. Even with prescription pills it made no difference to me.

I get them from lack of sleep and eating too much fat. Mine start with me going blind (usually lose the left side of my vision), then getting a really bad headache followed by constantly being sick and an impossibility to ingest anything.

I've not had one since I started drinking semi-skimmed milk though Smile

As has already been said in the thread, if it's a Migraine the only thing that seems to cure them is time (and sleep). For me anyway!

But one thing my Migraine doctor suggested, which does work really well for me for normal 'bad' headaches is 1000mg of dissolvable aspirin, dissolved in a 'full sugar' fizzy drink eg: Coke, Pepsi or something like that, no diet versions!!! - Best headache cure available, but take it as soon as you feel a headache coming on Thumbs Up

For dehydration, instead of just water, you need to have some salt, too. Not table salt, as that's too processed, but sea salt. Not enough to make the water undrinkable, just a few grains in a glass. When you're dehydrated, your sodium levels go down, so you need to replace them. Hence, saline drips in hospitals.

If you take aspirin or ibuprofen when dehydrated, take some salt, too. Either rinse them down with water with some salt in it, or eat some salty food (not much, though, as you'll only get thirsty).

My headache has faded from a 10 to a 5ish. But it's still here Sad
Would the salt on crisps be sufficient?

1000mg paracetamol AND 900mg aspirin. Caffeine optional. Works every time for me.

Draw a smiley face on your glans with a soldering iron. I can guarantee your headache will not trouble you for a while.

Avoid wheat (it gives me rotten headaches).

Place cold damp flannel over face, lay down in the dark. And do nothing, concentrate on your breathing (so you don't think).

I also use tiger balm on the temples.
