Run down on my 2009 rides

Well been heck of a busy lately but the matter of the Ride !!!

In July 09 I attempted as you know to ride the New CBF125cc ( replacement of the old faithfull CG125cc ) .On a End to End to End run ,.But it was in the first few miles I knew I had a problem , Not with me or the bike but the back-up crew , For some reason they were going very slow & Myself & my escort me on cbf & honeymonster on 600 Transalp had to stop 3 times for them to catch up & we werent out of Southwest yet !!!.
This carried on even after HM left & I knew I was falling behind secdual very fast ,
As night time came the temp dropped like a rocket falling from the sky , but hey I had been training 10mths riding in all weathers & temps for this ride .
The thought of breaking the record I set 2006 of the trip in 4xdays down to 3.5 days would be great achivement ..
We had the stops that I had planned I had lots more waiting for them to catch up ,The bike was ok but not Brilliant esp in the wet ( Tyres are not good in wet weather ,The headlight is well something dif , on dipped beam its ok ,on main beam all you see is hedges or sides of the road but I put that in memo to HONDA Uk ).

The Idear was to ride Landsend to Inverness one hit , Then Inverness to John O'groats to somewhere ,, Then some where to Landsend ,urmmmm didnt work that way .

I was getting very fustrated they were ok on 2008 run round the uk this was shorter run ok less time but easier & shorter run ,We were filming till they told me camera wasnt working .Not going well !!!.
I was still although full of completing but comments were coming out well we dont have to beat the 2006 run , mmmm Thats what were trying to do !!!.

I took wrong turning on A720 & lost them completely & did I know bout it later , Tensions were very high & on a safety reason I needed to cool down quickly ,as my thought have to total consantration on the roads ..

We stopped for break north of Perth then came out the comment well if u havnt paid for accomadation in Inverness maybe we should stop ,, WHAT !!!!.

Then truth came out my back up driver & machanic was not well ,I asked him b4 the ride if all was ok he assured me he was ,But to go so far then say that I was Gutted ..The weather changes had also played part on his condition , which carnt be helped So I had to decided what I was going to do , I wanted to carry on I was upfor it , but as the bike was sponsored by the company he worked for were he went the bike went ..So im knackered .

The dreaded texts went -out ABORTED ..as I carnt have member of the crew not well .We start as team so we finish as team ..We got B/B for the night & planned journey home ,, Funny thing he went alot faster then ...

Rode to harwick then to the Farmyard rally had good time there met up with Trikeskull n lots of m8s all thought I was nutter too ( why do folk think this ) , But back up crew went off on there own again this was getting stupid now ..

We had accom sort of booked nr Selby as we visited the Squires cafe & met with Rblriders who were doing a Saddlesore ride & I had arranged interveiw with Great British Bikers internet tv , No they weren't playing ball in that either ,.

The ride ended when we drove to find the B/B , they wernt happy with that either .

So by then enough was enough , Bike went in back of his Spinter n I had worse journey squashed up in the front seat ...I was only to happy to get home !!!

But in my mind I was also think I know I can do this ..There was only one way SOLO ...

We didnt raise to much for the charity either around £800.00 but never mind it all helps .all the hard work n training gone yes I was totaly n utterly gutted .But a few m8s & my partner was awaiting for the words ...

So well Im not letting it all go to waste everyone was realy gutted for me too problem was due to me not doing it I had to find new sponsors & Bike Sod it I will take my CG125cc Old faithfull ,
The route was no problem but when I know 8 weeks & just to be totaly nut Aug bank holiday too lots of traffic & poss great weather too urmmmmm.

Damerrals//John deacon Racing // J&C motorcycles // MDC carpentry all paid for the fuel .

CMS Motorcycles did full servive on the CG prior to the ride .

1st class motorcycles took me out on pre update ride with instructor .

First&lastmcc arranged Escort out n support on ending & contact on the ride Honeymonster my m8 .

Charity change to Diabetes Uk .got alot of support from them press release etc .

So dates were set I was buzzing , it was decided I would ride Plymouth Derriford Hospital to John O'groats to Landsend to Plymouth Derriford Hospital .

We even arranged Police escort for the final leg ..

THIS IS THE MAD RIDE !!!!.

Setting off on 27th Aug 09 @ 6am I rode out with members of the First&lastmcc who rode up from penzance esp ,The weather forecast was good so I thought lol .I left them south of Exeter ,took 40mins to get there .
Then it was nice ride upto Bristol as I was doing all A/B roads I should have ridden following the A38 , but I had been given permission to ride across the cycle path on M48 road bridge then entering chepstow cool took 150miles off the round trip ..

i was met by efion m8 of mine who rode to Hereford with me though the wye valley fantastic ride that was ,lovely biking roads & great veiws yes I saw some lol.

the sun was out I was also filming some of it as I had been given camera by ORIGON Scientific ..cool

The journey north was very un aventable till I got to Wigan RTA stood still for 30mins but good break & I was on time so I wasnt bothered ,Following the A49 to Preston then the A6 . route I knew very well from past rides .

It was amazing the lord is looking down on me the sky is bright the sun is shining Till Cumbria UGGGGH ..

The Sky was Grey & it was getting windy ,Then just outside Kendal it opened up big time ,,well we are in UK ,lol

Looking ahead I was aiming for the Ibis at Carlisle & it wasnt looking good ,sky was now black ,,wind was getting worse ,I phoned home like ET !! dam front coming in , rang HM to told me I was in for bit of rain lol .

The route over to Carlisle on A6 via Penrith was bad FOG//Rain//Shiity drizzle//Hail yes hail on top // But one thing I coulnt see too much & cars were over taking me so how the hell they could see ,,Lunatics .

I rode slow but safe lost bit of time but made Carlisle at 8pm to meet Manda President of Ride Till you Rot Society of which im a Hounary member .

Nice hot shower nice coffee n nice sleep .

Weather next day was windy but dry for now !!.Left manda at 7.30 am took the A7 to Edingbrugh , It was getting very windy again & very grey , Rang Home & HM who kept me updated on weather front but still im plodding along singing to myself , taking breaks & enjoying the ride ,Did go wrong way on A720 again looking for the A90 ended up on M8 ,whoops soon got off that one well CG125cc on L-plates not good lol .

Ride over the Bridge was one to be admired the cars behind me stayed well back a lorry came level with me to sheild me & yes I needed it , it was blowing a gale .

Once on A90 then A9 I knew next stop John O'groats cool , I passed the Aborted july spot .I was been passed by lots of Harleys were are they going I thought ,,The weather was getting worse the winds were very strong at one point I was going down Hill in 2nd doing 30mph ,,,

Stopped in lay by cold// wet & feeling realy down & thinking am I totaly nuts the weather by now was worse Id ever ridden in & ive ridden in some crap weather ..I was thinking of turning round at Avimore & saying sod it , yes it was that bad ,Maybe not for bigger bike but for CG it was bad n slow & hard riding my back was playing me up to ( im reg disabled with 3xslipped disc lower spine ).

So call to HM He knew from my tone of voice I was in trouble but something also perked me up ,So I carried on .

Aviemore HOG rally must call in on way home yes rode straight past it .

My next problem I was facing was fuel but on filling up in Inverness then topping up here n there I was ok ,By the time I got about 20miles from John O'groats the sky was like night time , The winds were about gale force 7 & it was raining too n cold so much for heat wave lol .
At John o'groats HM rang me asking if I carnt get off top in couple hours to find somewhere to stay bad storm coming in mmm last thing I needed running on tight funds ,
But found some where did some haggling , n dam it was nice to have hot shower ,guy even fed me for free ,n lots of coffee ,

I then sat with my map & made the dissicion to ride the last leg in one hit Yes John O'groats to Landsend ,,,So at 0700 hrs I left the B/B weather was still bit damp wind had dropped but still strongish ,,As I went south the sun strarted to pop out here n there & by Inverness it was very dry N down to bout force six .( 30th aug ).

I rode into Avimore on the Cg covered in stickers for breaky n coffee had to park betwween 6 lovely paint spayed Harleys ,, more pics were taken of my CG lol .chatted to a few all thought I was nuts , why ???

Then rode I was alot happier now & was enjoying it alot more , dont get me wrong even thougth the weather was bad it was FUN .But sunshine is better .
Edinbrugh came n went , Carlisle was fantastic run some fantastic sights ,
Once on the A6 I knew id be ok but missed turning n went 20miles wrong way whoops so turned round did 20mile back just to get on A6 ,..

I took stops when I needed to ate when hungry n fuel & if I needed to sleep well any layby be ok with me Tarmac mattress ....

South of Wigan got losted big time hit a diversion that went no where for the life of me couldnt find A49 ,who do u ask at 11pm on country lane , ( A indian taxi driver ) .yep told me how to get on track n he was right ,
The A49 at night time is lovely road no traffic or not alot ,south of shewsbury losted all my lights crap but with some help from a very nice man in RAC ,got them fixed something bout water in my headlight lol

I did stop at Ross-on -Wye for 30mins quick sleep it was catching up with me slowly ,I stopped again After crossing the M48 road bridge ( cyclepath ) , this was 6am 31st Aug I had to be in Landsend by Midday ,,

The wind was against me what new but no rain well checking oil cool n quick bike check I went for it ,A38 I know very well & had decided to take straight route down onto A30 ,
By Exeter I was feeling the worse but the achivement kept me going , Bikes passing me in op direction going to Exeter bike show but all nodding or waving to say hello .

SOS call to HM I need coffee strong lots of sugar please .He met me with his girlfiend n coffee 20miles from Hayle , " dam stu u look knackered was his 1st words " Yes I felt it too ,Stopped for 20mins then he escorted me to Cafe one at st Eirth were I had breakie , but It felt like I was still riding so ate most of it standing up ..

We then rode with various members of cornish bike clubs to Landsend Got there on time cool .Was presented with the trophy for the most outstanding ride 2008 for 2nd time ,

Oh n it was FOGGY lol

Then it was the final ride to plymouth but this time with 30 bikers following me cool , At Saltash we met up with Police motor cycle escort ( thank u Devon & cornwall police Greg jarrett who arranged it ).

Then rode into Plymouth Derriford Hospital I needed to be there 1800hrs to break the 2006 record I rode in 1800hrs on the DOT ..we even picked up more bikers on the way in but none from my local mcc which upset me a bit .

I felt sorry for the first&last & cornish riders they had to ride back thought the FOG I was going to bed !!!!.

Took me 2days to get over the ride but I was so happy n I DID IT SOLO .

We have raised £1.100.00 for Diabetes uk which aint bad & ive been told that I actuially did John O'groats to Landsend 17hours on A/B roads on CG125cc.( anyone wants to beat that ur welcome ).

Whole trip 3.5days .

It was attempted on CBF 125cc few weeks ago John O'groats to Landsend He did it in 23.5 hours .

So sorry HONDA the CG125cc is the better bike & yes you should carry on building it . in my veiw .

That was waaaay too long for me to read fully, but hurrah for spending time on a bike. Expecting us to be able to start this lengthy article as if we were just picking up on an episodic drama that we've all been caught up with is a bit of a big assumption, though.

I wanted to go the chippy but the others wanted to go to McDs, so after a while we lost each other and found each other again, went to PizzaHut but didn't get a side salad. Then we went home.
