How do you clean off melted vinyl?

Arrgh.

I don't know what I was thinking when I bought a cheap bike cover. It's made of vinyl and this evening I threw it over my bike without thinking.

When I checked my bike later to make sure it was still there (as you do ), I saw bits of the bike cover missing. It has come off onto the header pipes and exhaust

How do I remove the melted plastic without scraping and scratching the metal chrome surfaces?

Should've got an expensive fabric tarpaulin instead ..

Warm it up and scrape it off with something like a credit card

Use a wire brush, a brass one shouldn't damage the chrome.

Go for a long ride, get them red hot, should burn off most of it and then when they are pretty much clean, just go over them with wire wool and autosol. It will remove any leftovers and make your headers all shiny

Single sided razor blade.

Heat it up and then rub off with your thumb.


With all the burnt skin on your bike they wont notice the vinyl.
