I joined the forum about a week ago and have been reading it with interest (mainly the New Bikers section). So now i am finally putting finger to keyboard.

I have done the CBT and passed the theory and am going to go for the DAS, the thing is,

i would like to know how long does a mod 1 pass last for, ie, once you have passed it do you have a certain amount of time to take and pass the mod 2 ?

I had a 1976 honda XL 125 back in 1980 for 1 year and only now have had the get up and go, to start on the road to getting my full licence, any idea as to whether i should take weekly lessons or do one of those intensive courses ?

I live in Wakefield can anyone recommend a motorcycle training company ?

sorry for all the questions but as the saying goes if you don't ask Smile

Hiya, welcome to the forum!
The module one is valid for as long as your theory test is, and your cbt must also be valid when you do the module two as well as the module one and theory Smile
I personally found it better to go for a few days with constant training (3 to be exact Wink )...otherwise you might spend half the time 'warming up' and getting back into it Smile
With the days I spent I was finding it easier and quicker getting the clutch control etc as each ride went by. By my third day, I felt I didnt need it really!

Best of luck!

Welcome! I would personally recommend the more intensive courses Thumbs Up

That is, unless you actually have a motorbike that you are busy gaining experience on right now as you have your CBT? You didn't say.

Hi, thanks for the replies and welcomes, no i don't have a bike i really want to get my licence before buying one.

Thats good news about the mod 1 Smile

In the mod 2 is it true they ask questions, if so are the questions similar to the show me tell me ones on the car test ?

I was thinking along the same lines about the intensive course, now i need to find someone who can do the course, i figured if i waited till nearer winter the motorcycle schools would have lots of spaces left, no such luck Sad

One thing that bugs me is why are motorcycle lessons so much dearer that car lessons, and to make it even worse there are usually two riders being taught at once ???

If it makes you feel any better I thought that being out with another learner rider during a lesson was a good thing and lots of fun. The instructor had more than enough time to tell us both what we were doing wrong and you could observe how not to do something to a point when the person you are with gets it wrong. It's more fun riding in a group, at least for me watching someone else take a corner before me helped my brain judge it and make adjustments to how they took it in order to take it properly. Alone time with a proper instructor is always nice but if you're very new out there and have to "lead" all of the time it can be very stressful.

I heard, not sure how reliable it is, but the lessons are similar to the average car amount too- but we have to pay more for the tests and bike hire Confused I agree though that the two:one ratio is crap lol especially if the other person gets all of the 'attention' or is really bad Smile

Yep they do ask you questions (my examiner actually forgot to ask me any, but Im sure thats a rare occurence Wink )
Its about general bike things like where is the horn, how to check the oil level, brakes, etc and also how a pillion can change the handling of a motorbike. Im sure an instructor will go through all of this with you - mine even gave me the list of questions to revise which I have still got if you do need them if your instructor doesnt tell you.

Its weird because around the time I started thinking and did my training (August/September, it was really quiet apparently but now my local riding school is really busy even though its coming on for winter!

Enjoy though!

Yes, at the end of the test they ask you three (I think) questions. Stuff like how would you check the oil or chain, how would a pillion affect the bike's handling, etc.

Here are some example questions. That link says they ask the questions at the start so maybe it changes depending on the examiner.

Thanks for the questions link. They are just about the same as the show me tell me questions you get when taking the car test.

Actually i managed to get a half day lesson (8.30 - 11) with Anchor for £65 which aint bad, it should give me an idea as to how much training i need. with the option of taking an intensive course a few weeks later (someone cancelled) i can't wait Very Happy

Since I'm local swordheart if you ever find you need a bit of extra practice and don't mind paying the couple of quid it would cost to stick you on my policy for a month then give me a shout. I have a little h100 that you can use anytime Thumbs Up

I usually go to J&S in doncaster rather than Leeds. No recomendations from me sadly but there are enough in there to keep you trying them on all afternoon Thumbs Up
