I've always been a bit of a night owl, but as i'm currently a) unemployed and b) father of a newborn, i've been keeping some odd hours recently.
So, i found myself awake and sat in front of the telly at around 4am the other night(morning?), my wife had put on E4 music.

Accompanying the music videos, was sign language - WTF??

Now, whilst the signers were very good, and even went as far as to boogie along in a fashion in keeping with the style of music (whilst signing), i found the whole thing more than a little strange and slightly unsettling.

Do deafists actually watch this sort of thing? I suppose if they cranked the volume up they could get the feel of the bass and sign along in time to the beat, but isn't the whole experience a little wasted on them?
Also, bearing in mind that the programme was on at very early doors, would you want to live next door to a deafer pumping out bangin' choons (with extra bass) at 4am on a schoolnight?
So, E4 are focusing on a fairly small demographic there - music loving, night owl deafists who live in a detached house in the middle of nowhere and want to cut a rug.

Anways, i thought i'd close with a comment from the (very blonde) MrsGixer: I'd hate to go blind, i wouldn't be able to enjoy music anymore.

Yeah I watch it all the time. It's really really funny around Christmas time because they are made to dress up like elves. Its awesome to watch a short fat woman, dressed like an elf, dance away doing sign language. I always wondered why it was only on at night, do deaf people sleep during the day or something. I think it's a bit unfair it's only on at night they should have it on during the day as well after a while you forget theres someone signing in the corner.

Karma for your missus because thats an awesome quote.

I'm deaf - The signage isn't strictly for completely deaf people who can't hear a thing, there's lots and lots of deaf people who could hear the music but not make out the lyrics. I spent most of my childhood listening to music and making up lyrics in my head to match. When it came to entering karaoke competions, singing out loud etc I had to quickly find a corner to hide in or be forced to attempt to sing about seagulls, worms and snails instead of the actual lyrics - not embarrassing at all!! Embarassed

With some of the shit that gets wrote these days I'm guessing your lyrics would be better.

Looks weird, but if i was mutton i'd still like to know what people are singing about. I Imagine being deaf getting abit lonely at times.

She has my SOH.

If you see a Metallica video with sign language please find it and post it. I want to see a head banging sign... er ? Whatever they're called.
