When a girl asks what type of bike you have...

...How can you reply without sounding patronising?

Waiting for a lecturer to appear a boy in front of us mentioned off hand how he has a nice car but can't afford to run it. One of the girls almost immediately turned to me and said "What kind of bike do you have Kris?". I paused knowing that she had no idea on bikes (though the girl next to her does as her ex had a couple, but did she try help me out? No!) but eventually just said "A Triumph" hoping that the name would register, but it didn't, and I just got a blank stare.
At this point 19 of my 20 brain cells functioning that early in the morning were screaming "Don't be patronising, DON'T BE PATRONISING!", but I ignored it, sighed and said in a VERY patronising tone "A blue one".

Now how do I handle this in future without whipping out pictures of it as if I was a boring new parent?

Further reading: She then said "I thought you had a black one". I tried to explain my excuses for taking my Winter bike to uni but I don't think she could comprehend.

Hmmm, adding the sports bike part seems a good idea. It's like thinly veiled patronisation. As of tomorrow I'm going to have to say "which one?", as I'll have 3 bikes.
Now I see why people have branded leathers to match their bike.

Generally I say the name of the manufacturer followed by sports bike, as suggested above...

However, since I got my Ducati most people seem to understand what it is.

On the reverse side of this, I often get people asking me about my bike and then blatantly bullsh*tting me saying they used to ride and merge together a random name like Yamaha Fireblade GSX-R.

Happen to anyone else?

Think in that situation I would just stop at saying "a Triumph" and then let them chose whether to ask for more detail.

Now you can just reply "which one?".

I answer everyone the same way regardless of sex. I answer with a question. "Do you know your bikes?" If the answer is no, then I just answer "Yamaha". It's when they ask what kind of bike it is, that they start to feel stupider*. Is it a sports bike? No. You can see the sparks of fear and confusion from the brain, flashing behind the eyes.

Me: It's a muscle bike.

Me: It's a road bike?**
Noob:
Me: It's a naked bike?
Noob:
Me: It's black.
Noob: I've heard of an R1 I think it is. And GSX..... R. Is that right GSXR?
Me: Yeah, that's right but it's nothing like those bikes.

I've just reached the checkout after an excruciating queue to get to the tills in a well known department store. It is a rainy day, I am slightly, dripping shall we say.

Girl on checkout: Ooh do you ride a bike?
Me: Glaces at helmet on arm, shrugs in bright pink textile jacket. Yes.
Girl on checkout: Ooh what bike have you got?
Me: An Er5.
Girl on checkout: Oooohh Nice!!!
Me: Not really.

The absurdity didn't actually hit me until I escaped from the shop.
