After reading an earlier post in regard to illuminating gauges I thought I would show what I have been doing.

Slightly more refined than the other solution but nowhere near as funny.

Have not yet refitted the clocks but heres a few pics of what it will look like. Certainly an improvement on the standard set up and also adjustable as well.

The bits.... https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/Oerlikon/Bike%20Stuff/th_21102009368.jpg Fitting....https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/Oerlikon/Bike%20Stuff/th_21102009372.jpg Done...https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/Oerlikon/Bike%20Stuff/th_21102009375.jpg

One colour variation...https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/Oerlikon/Bike%20Stuff/th_21102009377.jpg And another....https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b397/Oerlikon/Bike%20Stuff/th_21102009376.jpg

And heres a short vid showing the colour changes..

Good effort. Are they any good? I'm thinking about something similar myself.

I bet you couldnt resist losing a couple of thousand miles on that clock while you had it open...? Twisted Evil

Ive not yet put them back on yet so cant answer that yet...looks very good though and I am sure will be better once out and about at night.

And lol...no...cant see how you would alter the milage without breaking something to be honest. No real point anyway...its a 5 minute job to change the clocks for any others anyway if thats what you really wanted to do.

www.streetracerparts.com

My particular ones were being discontinued though so not sure on what other types are available.

Original = gash and quite poor.

New, I'm afraid I side with Matt, it looks a little Casio to me too.

So you dont like the original or the old? Hmm.....hard to please in that case then!

I have fitted them on the bike now and although this is my opinion only I think they are much better than what was on there originally.

Being able to alter them from bright blue/white to green and also the different levels of brightness helps a lot as well.

Having had a 7R, the poorly lit dials are the most dated part of the bike in my eyes. Not that you should be looking at the clocks all the time anyway's when out and about enjoying yourself.

Funnily enough my mate was looking at them last night when I had them set at the brightest setting. He said...do they put you off when riding.
I had only been out in briefly to check everything was working ok and had to admit that I hardly looked at them other than a cursory glance to check speed.
Oh well...I like them anyway Smile

Ok...heres a photo showing the spare Km/h face that was in the set I received. It measured 85mm across as you can see.

Also added a slightly better photo now they are on the bike. And below that...how they were so you can get a better comparison.

Thats the last of the photos now of them!

Looks good, but 1 question,

How did you manage to loose the 1454miles?

The photos of the standard clocks and the photos of the new style ones are different clocks. Just coincidence that the mileage on both is similar.

When you put the new faces on you only get at the front of the gauges and not actually 'inside' them so to speak so if you wanted to alter the mileage in any way you would have to dismantle further from what I could see.

Actually fitting the Illumiglo faces was actually very easy...just meant drilling a hole through the casing for the cables to exit from.

<Insert big SIGH here> Smile

They are not the 'exact' same clocks. I have never said they were. Also the temperature gauge is not 'stuck'...the engine had been running...... thats what happens you know...the needle moves up and down according to temperature of the engine...cant stop it when the ignition is on which it needs to be to turn the lights on.... Wink
For the sake of those who are
A) Interested or ..
B) have nothing better to do than pick fault Wink I will explain in full below.

I wanted to do the Illumiglo modification to my clocks. I managed to find the parts from a website in America (as previously mentioned above) after failing to find them over here in the UK.

Being rather fanatical about my bike I had decided I wanted to get a spare pillion seat because I have a rear seat cowl (that fits over seat) and constantly taking it on and off so as the GF could get on was a pain as I was worried it would break clips.

By luck someone on another forums was selling several items from his 7 . I am also wanting to do a HID light conversion on mine so was intending to buy another headlight unit to do a projector light conversion on rather than butcher the one on the bike.

It just so happened he had a seat...lights...and also clocks that had 1454 less miles on than mine. I spoke to him and he wanted the same price for all three as what it would cost to get just the lights alone. I thought...sorted! And snapped his hand off.

Why did I want the clocks you may ask...well as I said I am rather fanatical and mine had a mark just below the temp gauge where the banjo bolt on the front brake had been catching on it when on full left hand lock. Whoever had fitted the braided hoses had not fitted them correctly and it was catching. I figured...hey 1454 miles is not much less so I may as well fit the Illumiglo kit to those and do a straight swap..solving the damaged look problem.

So...I fitted the Illumiglo kit and then set about changing the clocks. Took the fairing off and found that the original clock had a broken mounting due to the brake pipes pushing on it so was pretty pleased I had bought the others which are much better.

So theres the story... I still have the other clocks and wont be getting rid of them..were they original? I have no idea...it was owned by others before me... did they change them? I have no idea...and to be honest...dont really care.

Yes I could have been clever and wound on the replacements easily enough but couldnt be arsed to be honest.

My intention is to never sell the bike. Yes I will be buying another bike one day but have no intention of getting rid of this one. If I ever do have to then rest assured that person will know exactly what I have done and when. Why shouldnt I? Nothing to hide or I wouldnt post it all on here!
I could have trawled Ebay and picked up some clocks with 3000 miles on the clock if I had really wanted to...same as pretty much most can do with 'any' bike.

Hope that settles a few minds although I am sure it will cause more furore than anything else! lol

Andy

PS...if I do sell it...anyone interested?
