Reason for posting here is that I want it solely for off road.
ie: easy to read as I ride ... bright ? ... and waterproof.
I am also a notorious tightwad .. so want it cheap.
So, here are my requirements:

Waterproof.
Ability to log a route as I ride.
Easy to use and see as I ride.
Below £100 (secondhand is ok)
Plugs into PC and has maps that I can edit routes / that someone can furnish me with maps etc.
Did I mention cheap!

Suggestions ?

Is this any good?

I've got that etrex legend, although mine isn't colour.

It /would/ work well if it didn't cut out 10 meters into a bumpy lane...

I would avoid it tbh.. mine just cuts out with bumps and vibrations..

It's good for rambling though Laughing

I think the one Tatters has might be the answer if it comes in under budget.

I went for the Road Angel 7000 Adventurer option, the RA 7000 is a standard RA satnav, but allows you to utilse Memory-Map SE software. Being a sat-nav it has a larger screen than a traditional handheld GPS. You can run it in Memory-Map or standard sat nav modes. So you can find your way there with the sat-nav ... then follow/track your route when in memory-map mode Cool

It is waterproof too (lets face it, mine survived Sunday and that is about as truer test as you can have!! Wink)

To find out more:-

https://www.road-angel-uk.co.uk/road-angel-adventurer-7000.php
https://www.memory-map.co.uk/acatalog/adventurer.html

They are discontinued now, so you are looking at 2nd hand or old stock.

p.s. The only difference between an 'Adventurer' and a normal 'Navigator' (road only version) is the software on the SD card, the units are identical.

So you can get a Navigator and upgrade it to Adventurer by simply getting an Adventurer card! Thumbs Up

p.p.s It is a sat-nav, so only lasts 2-3hrs under its own power, so you WILL need to set up a charging jack on your bike if you intend to ride for more than that.

I've got a road angel 7000 I'm not using at the moment because I've got my fancy garmin. You're welcome to borrow it, possibly on a long-term basis.
I don't have the proper 'car' cradle for it that you can power it through and the USB connector (other option for bike power) is a little dodgy, but is bodgeable.

I doubt I'll be intending to use it any time soon, so you're welcome to either borrow it until you decide if you like/don't like it, or maybe buy a cradle for it and keep using it until I decide I want it back for some reason (not sure what it would be, but might do at some point).

I don't have the 'adventurer' card, but I believe that may, err, be 'available' on the interwebs Smile.

I'd take up G's generous offer if I were you!! Wink

You are best off with the car cradle anyway as the USB port is under a waterproof flap, but the cradle utilises some contacts on the back of the unit. So if you want to keep it waterproof, you need to keep that flap closed!! Wink

You can buy the cradles separately, but you could always simply solder the charger wires direct to the exposed contacts on the back of the unit (probably best to ask G if that is OK first!! Laughing).

I can tell you which 2 of the 4 contacts you need to power!! Thumbs Up

But to be honest, the cradle gives you something 'safe' to mount the sat nav to the bike with.

Thumbs Up Will take you up on that G .. cheers Thumbs Up
Will PM you to arrange a pick up at some point over next couple of weeks. Much appreciated. Karma
Dont ask Bendy what I am like with 'borrowing things' ... I still have a dvd and book of hers from 2 months ago Rolling Eyes
(Bendy .. will pop it back soon .. promise)

Been looking to get something for ages .. and was going for Tatters one, but it all seemed a bit too 'military'. ie: want to use it in the car too.
Blue, not sure if you noticed... but I gave yours a rub (oooer missus) when I was looking over your bike ... trying to see what the screen was like etc.

Does sound like a promising one... look forward to trying it out.

Exactly why I had a quick look at yours at the end of the sand gallops .... we went through more water than I have seen in 2 yrs of riding off road .. and it seemed to still be running fine. Thumbs Up
Nice and neat too.. not too big, and not too small.

ok I have a road angel 7000 navigator. How can I turn it into an adventurer? I can't seem to find anywhere to download the memory map software or information on how to get it onto the gps. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Will actually dig mine out this week, bit busy with minimoto an' stuff last week.

I believe backups of what you want are available via 'torrents', because you have lost the maps card you bought, of course Smile. I'm sure blue will be along with more details of the processes.

You have come to the right place to ask this question!! Smile

Have a read of this:-

https://www.berkshirequadtrails.org/QuadForum/showthread.php?s=f06c5d2cb5e8d5e390d731655562ce7b&t=252

That should get m-map onto your sat nav. Sadly you need to buy the maps. You can get them off eBay or from memory-map themselved https://www.memory-map.co.uk/maps_uk_onland.htm

You can obviously also download the maps from certain 'file share' sites, but I am not going to advocate that Razz

Oh and once the m-map software is on your card, it is not initally obvious how to access it!! ... you access it via the menu where you get options like 'distance calculator' list through them it is in there. Then fire it up!! Thumbs Up

Here is the bit that took me quite a time to figure out .... and I'll save you the bother!! Very Happy

The active sync they talk about is NOT necessary for transferring all the above files, you can transfer all that via normal SD card reader (much quicker). However, if you want to transfer ROUTE/Track information onto the card (and have the software pick it up) you then need to use activesync enabling memorymap PC software to detect the sat nav and you can then consequently export the route to your sat nav.

I suggest you build a m-map SD card and get it working on the test/example maps, then once you have it all up and running, invest in the full memomory map map for your area!! Thumbs Up

Oh and FYI, the 1:50000 maps are easier to read (see) on the sat-nav, so I suggest getting 1:50000 maps even if a 1:25000 is available for your desired area!! Thumbs Up

I think Blue is having some issues with his computer ... font problems or something (must be that new virus).
So, always happy to help ... I will re-post:

I've got a Garmin 60csx with topomap GB, has anyone got any routes that I could load up (South East ?).

I'll bring it along with me on the weekend to see if I can capture the route we go on Smile
