ok, today I once again passed my CBT but today I decided to take geared bike test as I thought it would be more fun. It's certainly more difficult but a lot more rewarding/enjoyable.

I know this entitles me to practice on the road legally on a machine up to 125cc with L plates (I'm over 17). What is the restriction on BHP though? I have looked online and I'm unable to find any numbers.

Just so I can get really used to geared bikes before I take my test Very Happy

Thank you

I believe it's 14.6bhp or 11kW, as stated on in the above link. Well done on the gears, fun ain't they? Mr. Green

I think when my instructor asked me if I would be riding a geared bike or a scooter I remember giving him a rather disgusting look Laughing Well done, gears are definitely more fun, obviously an essential skill and a better use of your money on a CBT!

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?

Not that it matters but even if you have a CBT taken on an automatic, you can still ride geared Thumbs Up

well sometimes when I was riding, I forgot to clutch it before I changed or didn't clutch enough and it changed, then I clutched quickly to avoid flipping the bike, it revved really loudly for about 3-4 seconds before settling down. oops Embarassed

You mean either you didn't put the clutch in after accidentally (what I assume was) downshifting or you didn't let go of the thottle once you did put the clutch in (to avoid "flipping the bike").

Otherwise there's nothing that would keep an engine revving - or I didn't understand what you said.

Don't worry, it all comes with practice Cool

The odd mistake happens, but everyone drops a boo-boo now and again. Sometimes when tired or lazy i've knocked my bike down a cog without the clutch, it only happens if i'm cruising to a stop and usually from 3rd to 2nd. Not nice for the gearbox and not nice for me as i dislike being woken up when i'm tired.

Have you already said you're getting a proper bike?

Pat

hell yeah! I love geared bikes <3 Gonna get something like a CG125 or something cheapish to practice on, maybe get about 2-3 hours lessons then do my A license. Very Happy Already passed the theory once...but it expired, this time it's harder but meh, it can't be too hard.
