Another thread I hear you shout with excitement!

More of a question actually.

The other day whilst walking down the road with helmet in hand, a biker goes past, I nod at him in the usual fashion, forgetting that I am not actually on a bike although he did see me and nodded back! He was doing about 5mph and I was right next to the road even so, I would have not realised there was a biker walking down the road myself.

Anyone else do this to passing bikers?

I always nod at passing bikers if I am in bike gear but not on the bike.
I usually get a nod back if they see me.

I do hope that you get beaten up by a massive bloke on a chopper (or a gang of mods) for giving them the finger.

Seriously, what's the problem? I don't give a fuck if someone doesn't nod at me, but if someone gave me the finger just because I happened to be riding a cruiser (which I do), I wouldn't be happy.

Went through a stage of waving at other bikers with lots of enthusiasm. some of the reactions were really funny, kept me smiling for a while.

Was in my mates new car, He used to have a 600 Kwaker illegally but has now passed his driving test, so we were in the car close to mine, some guy with his woman pulled next to us on a ZZR1400, So my mate opens the window and says "my other car is a bike" and i pipe up exitedly that my ninja is parked just over there. The guy smiles at us and says that we must be much warmer (which we were) and then rides off with a wave, laughing to his wommen folk as he goes.

Must have thought we were bullshitting Razz

When I am on pedal bike in particular I find myself nodding at other motorbikes...

When I am on my motorbike I sometimes catch myself nodding at other 'motor enthusiasts' (e.g. kit cars etc). Laughing

Funnily enough in London no-one nods anyone anymore, too busy trying to stay alive, and keeping an eye out for the maniacal cyclists except when a biker is walking and your on the bike!

Why are cruiser riders given such a hard time? I ride a cruiser because 1) it was given to me for free when I started to go for my test, 2) it is old, so the insurance is cheaper and finally 3) I have a back issue which rules out sports type bikes somewhat... however I will nod to all on two wheels and I will stop and help any biker if I can. I couldn't give two monkeys if someone doesn't nod, it's their loss - but I do get hacked off with people who don't know me and are rude towards me, just because I ride a cruiser!

I've had varied experience with the "bikers nod".

This time last year i was riding around on a 125 with L plates and around 1/2 of the bikers i would nod to would nod back. However, once it had got into the dead of winter, i found every biker that i nodded to would nod back.

These bikers were all riding at a sensible pace compared to the bikers that ride around at ridiculous speeds on summer weekends who dont bother nodding back whether your on a 125 or a 600.

The ultimate off bike biker meeting i had was some guy stopped in a 4x4 as he saw me walking along a road carrying my helmet having run out of petrol. He asked what was wrong and being a fellow biker gave me a lift to the petrol station and back.

Only members of the bike community would do that, you wouldnt catch a Fiesta driver nodding at or even helping out a fellow Fiesta driver!
