Yes, following my accident I have been frantically chasing up Fowler's to get my bike estimate sorted, chasing my insurance company to get a result.

I popped into Fowler's today and have been told by a member of staff there that the engineer of the 3rd party's insurance and their own engineer have both come to the conclusion that my bike is "damaged beyond economical repair". Which means to repair (replace, they don't actually repair the fairings there) the bike, it would cost in parts and labour combined more than 60% of the value of the bike. I do not know full details from them yet as they have sent out the report. As soon as I receive this I will forward the information to you all.

This has deeply disheartened me as it was my legs that took most of the battering, and upon my own inspection the only things damaged were panel damage and minor things such as mirror / indicator.

To top things off, the idiot in the car is yet to admit liability. There are 3 witnesses though and a police report, but a write-off is the last thing I want Sad

I'm almost certain that they will not offer me the price I paid for it and have already been advised by my solicitor to gather adverts of the same bike at the same age with similar mileage of similar price ready for when they offer me a crazy amount eventually. [/url]

Mate, really sorry to hear that. Amazing you suffered so much damage at such a slow speed.

Sorry, I am sure you have posted it up, but what happened?

Ouch.

Well, if you're lucky with the insurance company, they will right it off and allow you to keep the bike (and hence do your own repairs) like James has done with his.

Best of luck getting liability sorted though Thumbs Up

Mad Jesus, not good to hear.

Would it be possible to check breakers for fairing, then send the car driver the bill?

Hope things work out for you though. Thumbs Up

Look on the bright side, you've still got the scoot Razz

Unlucky Mate, didn't have it long did you, I know had I been comprehensivly insured my crash would have written off the bike, instead Im paying £200 to have it pieced back together when I only paid £130 for the bike. Hopefully you won't loose out much money becuase of it, and you should be able to buy the remains of the bike back cheaply. Oh, and good luck with the car driver, hopefully you wont have any problems with them.
Hope its sorted as quick as possible Thumbs Up,
Cheers, Jonathan

Thats the thing. There is no remains of the bike!

It is still complete, still rideable with a brake lever. No panels are cracked, just scratched.

Hence my anger.

Make sure you state that you'd like to buy that bike back off them (you need to state this really) and see how much they want for it, it's worth £500 at a guess if everything works etc, decent track bike or you could break it for spares..

I'd say they'd want £150/200 too sell it back to you as they usually sell them off stupidly cheap

What bike is it, Also there maybe some kind of frame damage that you may not know about, I was hit at circa 20mph and it still managed to bend my rear sub frame, thus them writing the bike off.

You still get to keep your bike after the right off, right?

So get the £ from the other persons company, then streetfighter it Twisted Evil Thumbs Up ...

Or spend a couple of hundred for race/aftermarket Shocked fairings. It'll look better than no fairings...

There was no contact!! The car pulled out in front of me, I hit the brakes (probably too hard, but I am inexperienced especially on that bike), the front wheel slipped and down I went underneath the bike.

I am really angry! I wish I'd smashed into the side of him!

This FU(King idiot is driving round in his cage without a scratch...

Make sure when the bloke comes to look at it you tell them you want to buy it back.

If you don't want to do that say you will anyway and I will buy it back.

I will do!

Once liability has been sorted (no contest with 3 witnesses and a police report) I will keep the bike, with the money I receive i have several options.

Either to use the bike as a track bike and buy a new one with the rest of the money Smile Very Happy

Or repair it as cheaply as possible and re-MOT it and keep it on the road and pocket the money.

Either way, I imagine the bike to be hard to sell at a later date...

Does anyone have any experience selling insurance write-offs that have been put back on the road?
