Ride slower and you get better fuel economny.

I very much doubt you could swap the tank, how big is the 900's anyway?

Don't forget when your touring you use less fuel, than when your stopping and starting.

Or just buy a Touring bike, Nice little ZZR6 or something. Razz

have a look around at the tanks to see if one will fit.

Its alot of money to spend just for a few extra litres though. Perhaps changing gearing and riding style (favour higher gears and lower speeds) will be a more effective way of conserving fuel.

I'm sure its also possible to lean out the mixture to save fuel, however exatly how to do this i wouldnt know Razz

Not worth leaning out the mixture, probably do more harm than good.

Whats the point of spending £££ on a new tank? Just dont rev it hard when you want to save fuel. Keep the rpm low. Its easy m8, just no fun. And its free...

I too have a '98 Hornet and was also miffed at the supposed crap range - 75miles to a tank was touted.

However, I managed to pull 105 miles to a tank twice in a row - with a mixed riding style and quite a few stop/starts. The 105 miles was to reserve so I guess I would have got 120'ish to completely empty.

Here's a good Hornet link btw.....

https://www.devilbod.co.uk/bikes_madmen/hornet_mod.htm (Thanks to Steve H. for the link).

Hope this helps.

Um, I think the newer hornets have bigger tanks AFAIK, but I haven't a clue what year they are.

The trouble with the Hornet is that it has a steel box section spine frame. The frame is effectively a long S shaped piece of box section girder that goes from the top of the engine up to the headstock. Now imagine over the engine and airbox a large rectangular area where the tank can't be. Now you'll understand why the hornet tank is so small...

TBH a hornet isn't ideal touring fodder. What about a nice Triumph Sprint? Very Happy

Hornet has a small tank range, its one of its biggest flaws. Just strap a fuel can to the pillion seat if you want to double your fuel carrying capacity.

The hornet 900 tank wont fit because it is a compleatly different size and shape. I get around 100miles between fill ups, even got 85 on the track.
I got a hornet cus it does what i want it to do, gets me to work and back and is fun at the weekends. If i wanted to tour, i would buy a VFR or similar.
After 20mins at 80mph the last of fairing makes my neck sore on the hornet. Deffo not a good bike for touring.
