11miles, 1bar?

So ever since someone kicked my bike over it's been stood outside clo's house in Louth.

Now my worries are that it will get nicked (obviously). So i've been thinking of riding it home the 11miles. Now most of this would be the A16, so pretty easy riding. But it's the getting it out of town and round my village, that i'm affraid of because of the lack of turning power and front braking with only the clutch side 'working'

Anyone else done this?
Is it a stupid idea?

Sorry, forgot to mention that putting it on a truck or trailer is out of the question because the trailer that I have availible is to small, and the works truck is big enough (16foot bed) but far to high to lift or push up boards.

I think as nothing has gone wrong for you in at least 2 days, that you should risk it.



So what is actually wrong with the bike?

I once developed an alternator fault 30+ miles from home. The bike would only start without the flywheel cover on, so not only did I have that spinning mere millimetres from my leg, I also had no clutch or gearchange Bumped it in third and managed to get the whole way home without stopping once (not easy, as judging lights was a bloody nightmare).

This being the case, you would very likely make it

I managed to ride 13 miles home with just a rear brake as the front master was bone dry (by accident as the seals burst).

I also found out that the tyre was showing a bald patch and rode home, again 13 miles only to find that there was less than 5psi to the rear when I got home. Going round corners was not fun to say the least.

I've ridden 60 miles home using my R &Gs as footrests when I managed to break my footrest hangers off. So you'll be fine; forward planning is the key.

I have a metal bike ramp you can use to get it onto the truck if you want. You will have to come and get it though, it's quite heavy.

My house is about 18 miles from Louth.

if you take it easy and keep to lowish speeds i don't think you should have to much problems, i rode my bike about 8 miles with no front brake at all before and that was all main roads and roundabouts.

Why dont you just repair/temp repair the bike at the house then ride it home?? or is that too obvious

I've made it about 4 miles with my left clipon resting in my lap to use the clutch, 13miles would be pushing it but shouldn't be too hard.

Surely you could put another set of bars on dead easy?

I've rode with a snapped clutch cable before, to get home. But i wouldn't ride with only one hand on the bar to control the bike.

What you need is a hatchback car and guts.
Pop a wheelie into the bootspace...apply front brake for safety. Then wheelie your way home.

Ok, the bike is home in one piece(ish) and so am I. The throttle was actually real easy, I just put my thumb around it, then pushed against the top of the brake lever with my fingers. And I did actually manage a rather good speed (132mph) But I did have a friend behind me in his car, just incase something happend along the way.

Interesting ride to say the least, it was cold wet and the engine is running like an OAP after a week of been stood.
