i need some advice about something, i sold my 50cc back in april-may time and i give the guy the docs for the bike and he said he would send them off etc. But i've just got a tax reminder through the door, should i just SORN the bike and let the guy who i sold it to get all the problems? because i have no contact details for the guy who i sold it to

Don't SORN it, give the DVLA a bell and let them know that you are no longer the registered keeper. Did you not send your bit of the V5 to them at the time you sold the bike?

sorry mate but this all falls down to u its ur responsibilty to send it all off there for any tax fines ect will be yours to pay!

right cheers, when i read that E section on the back it says i need to say who i sold it to but i don't know who it was?

Hi,

I had a similar problem with a Mondeo i sold about a year ago, and although the i actually posted the V5 off with the new owners details, the DVLA claimed to have never received them, so when the car ran out of TAX i got nobbed for a £60 fine and although i had legitimately sold the car and posted off the log book there was sweet chuff all i could do !!

if i were you, i'd request a copy of the V5 (tell them you've lost it - so it's free) fill it in with new owners details and post it back to them ASAP so that you cant get done for not re-taxing it.. and to be brutally honest, even if you've not got the new owners details, i'd make up a bullsh1t address and send it off anyway, at least then you cant get done for anything !

might sound a crappy way out - but that's what i'd be inclined to do!

It's a common mistake, though. I've bought bikes many times and had the owner give the whole V5 to me (though I always informed the DVLA, so there was no problem).
