Tire pressures and suspension set up.
besides that there is little or nothing you can do to improve handleing. unless of course there is some form of a mechanical fault with the bike. in which case fixing that will give an improvement Wink

How do I improve my handling?

Thats like saying "How do I make stuff better?"

You need to work out what sort of handling you want before you can improve it. For example, you could make your bike turn in faster, but it might make it twitchy. You could make the bike rock solid when in a corner but reluctant to turn.

What do you want from your handling? If you were to say "More confidence in the bike!" Then I would say thats not an easy proposition for a grey import 400 thats over ten years old!

I would say that after tyres (pressures and condition) the next thing to do would be check the forks and seals to see if they are leaking/bent etc. Then replace the fork oil. Then check the shock to make sure it isn't leaking and that it isn't bent etc.

After that, I would say renew all of the bearings (wheel, Headstock etc) and all of the rear suspension bushes. If the shock has lost damping it might be worth a new one. There are some good replacements for not excessive money, but it still might end up costing more than the bike is worth. Also the forks could be re-valved, but that usually costs around £300.

check out https://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/main1st.htm

After THAT, I would say that you are a hopeless case!

It would be helpful to know what sort of thing the bike does when you accelerate, brake and corner really. If you don't have much riding experience then you might not know what to expect. I would strongly advise (if this is the case) to get someone who has been riding a while to ride the bike. There might even be nothing wrong with it!

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
