droppign a bike

if when i go to buy my bike (hopefully an aprilia if i can afford it) is it ok to buy something like this

says its been dropped. now as a first bike i will proably drop it at least once. so is it worth buying a structuraly / mechanicaly sound one like this (presuming it is so) keeping it for a few months and when im confident i wont kill it replacing the fairing? or is it more complicated? will i do serious damage by droppign it or is it just cosmetic? cheers

oh, and if it's your first bike, get a naked bike. then when you have the experience get a nicer one, or pass your test.

no point in buying a nice shiny new bike when you're gonna completely fuck up the fairings.

when i bought my first CG, it had been dropped. the only way you could tel this is from the ill-fitting brake lever and scrapes on the mirror plastic.

if you drop one of them.... well... i'm sure you can figure it out yourself.

oh, and if you look for fairings for the new shape RS... you better be loaded

I've seen this bike on this forum as an ebay link and someone asked if it would be a good idea to buy it as it'd been dropped, i'd be cautious.

Only way to know is to look at it closely, i dropped my first bike (1 year old chinese 125) outside my house stood still and mashed the whole side of it, cosmetics only. But i've just thrown my CG down the road at 40mph and all that did was pop the headlight cover off.
Unlikely to do anything major stood still though.

I wouldn't be put off buying a dropped bike if it was priced right, but I would go over it carefully and test ride if possible, take somebody along who's got a full licence and can talk you out of buying it if its a munter as its easy to be blind to things when your excited and can't wait to get a bike.

putting a new fairing on it is pretty straight forward but i expect its would cost quite abit and not really worth it on a bike that your probably going to change when you pass your test, save it and put it towards your test or some decent gear. it doesnt look that bad from the photo but there arent any close ups of the damage

My personal oppinion. Unless the fairing is broken to the point of non-functionality, I wouldn't worry about it (obviously price according to condition). If you are going to buy it and get a new fairing for it. Put the new one on just before you sell it.

As has been said on the forum before. You can't see the paintwork when you're riding it.

I wouldn't be put off by the fact it's been dropped. I would be put off by the fact that it's a) nearly £1800, and b) a silly plastic race reptile.

It's about the last type of bike I'd want as a newbie. You need something cheap to buy, run and fix, with no plastic, something that can withstand frequent drops without doing expensive damage.

It wouldn't put me off buying a dropped bike, you will need to have a look at it yourself to see how bad the damge is, you could proberbly knock it down a few quid .

cheers guys. i think i will get a naked bike tbh. but bikes are frowned on imensly by the other people at collage so im wary of getting one that dosnt stink of street cred. shallow i know but a m8 turned up with a ped one day and will never live it down. it is starting to look like a naked bike would be better though. what are some good makes? cheers
