PostPosted: 23:36 - 06 Nov 2009    Post subject: Raffling off my bike Reply with quote

Hi guys,

Started this on another forum (EssexBikers) and need to sell tickets for the 'raffle'.

I have my bike a 1993 Honda CD250U-K up for grabs.. taxed and moted till may 2010.

Basically i need to sell my bike and am having trouble doing so due to the climate, so for a bit of fun im raffling it off.
£5 buys you a ticket, you can buy as many tickets as you want...

All those who buy 'tickets' will get their name put into a hat (or a helmet in this case). Obviously the more tickets you buy, the more slips of paper with your name on are in the hat, which means more chances for you to win.

Obviously i dont want to be losing money here, so ill say there must be a minimum of say.. 100 people willing to do this to make it worth my while, im not a charity case but due to the credit crunch this could be a good bit of fun and someone will end up with a very cheap bike.

Simple maths 100x5= £500 Approx. value of bike, the money will be used to help me fund my driving lessons/test.

But for some lucky git, they could win a road-legal motorcycle for the measly sum of a fiver. Surprised

I've spread this across two forums, the bike would need collecting from Tilbury, Essex obviously and paperwork would need to be sorted.

If your interested add your name to the list..

1. Full Name, email address, forum, and username must be sent to my email: djcalcium@essexbikers.com
2. Anyone who buys a ticket must be able to collect the bike, my initial plan is to meet somewhere e.g. The New White Hart in Billericay and have the raffle there, this will bring both business back to the new white hart and hopefully we will have a really good turnout as well!
3. If bike is to be 'rode away' you must have relevant insurance for it.
4. If the person who wins is not contactable within a week of the draw being taken, another draw will take place.
5. Should the winner decide not to take the bike for whatever reason, no refund will be given and another draw will take place.*

*Bike is 'sold' as seen unless otherwise stated, winners have the right to walk away.

If interested simply add your name to the list below and when the quotas been completed i will update with a place to send the money, if buying multiple tickets please let me know either via email or pm.... once the quotas full the bike will be raffled off at a open-event in Essex, the ticket will be chosen by a third-party not part of the competition to ensure no 'rigging' is taking place.

If you are a part of Essex Bikers, please add your name there.

i'll give it a go but could only come to pick the bike up, not come to the actual event as i'm skint and when i lose it'd be a waste Razz

-----

btw, you don't need 100 people, only 100 tickets sold. i'd buy 2 and some other people may buy five, you never know.

-------

failing that i'll give you 200 for it next week Mr. Green

question ......... how do you intend to do this raffle so everyone that enters would think the draw you make is totally legit.

You would need a lawyer etc with a written contract etc to make 100% sure it was all above board. he would then have to acknowledge every single ticket with a legal receipt and if not enough peeps bought tickets there would have to be a legal way to either return monies or carry on with raffle. there would also have to be a legit way of getting the winning ticket, not just you and a m8 picking a so called ticket from a helmet.

not worth it for the amount you want for it fella, all the legal shite you would have to go thru, i for one would not believe you had done the draw fairly or legit unless im there in person ( not saying you wont but im a distrustfull cvnt)

Plenty of people raffle cars, it happened on a car forum I'm on, but the winner was picked at one of the car meets so everyone knew it was legit, a similar thing would have to happen to get everyone involved, otherwise you could "randomly" pick a friend out of the tickets and we would be none the wiser!

I would probably buy a ticket for £5 if there was some form of security that it was definetly random.

What have you got against driving...its miles warmer and safer than on the bike in the snow/ice weather...give it a rest.

Cars are the work of Satan. There are way too many of the bloody things on the road. 90% of people who drive them are clueless and shouldn't be on the road. Aside from that, I have nothing against cars. Except that it's impossible to enjoy riding on the road these days because there's always bloody cars in the way Shocked

lol...I think you would find most people on here also use cars.
Theres not too many..theres too many foreign trucks, not too many cars.
You want to enjoy a ride on a bike..go for a long ride, i enjoy riding my bike and i likve smack bang in the middle of town!

Joining a few towns round here is some very decent A roads, thats where the fun is at.
Car does same speed and my bike, Its better in the cold, Its comfy..I transport guitars and amps...bike fails to give me that option.
Bike for cheap, easy and fun transport around, car for practicality

I thought this was bikers' forum. Now I find out half of them are car drivers Shocked How can you enjoy the pleasant warmth of summer when you haven't battled through the elements during the winter? It's not natural.

If I wanted to be warm and comfortable, I'd become a hermit Laughing

Just because I hate cars and the endless stream of bland, plastic so-called sports bikes and have an addiction for rattly, smoky air cooled 2 strokes, that doesn't make me narrow minded Wink

As a car and a bike owner i take offence at that blanket statement Laughing
I ride my bike all year.... Yet need a car due to faimly.

Car is also the standby should the bike decide it wants a day off Confused

As to the OP.
Is he going to stop selling tickets once he reaches his assessed value of the bike. Or carry on to make even more profit.

My guess is that he is over valuing his bike, which is why its not selling.

If I had to have something where I was enclosed from the elements, I wouldn't mind one of these:

Apes look like a right laugh Very Happy And would be useful for humping stuff around, without the stigma of having to become a car driver, as the 50 version is classed as a moped, I think Cool

First off, wrong forum. I'll leave it here for the moment as there's likely to be further discussion on the subject that could prove useful generally.

These 'raffles' went through a fashion a while ago. It quickly got to the point there were so many, none ever got enough tickets. Think Al melling was trying to sell his cars like this.

You need to be very careful about the 'drawing' mechanism to my mind. Easy to get the person who's doing the draw to 'palm' a ticket with the person you want to win on.
Suspect, with the above comments about a gaming licence, if people were unhappy with the outcome they could get you quite done, but don't know the details personally.

When I've seen other such things it's been for vehicles you can be pretty sure will be in a good state, ie new cars or freshly serviced bikes etc. I would worry if there were problems (I assume if it's actually worth £500 it should be in pretty god nick so won't be an issue) you could get yourself into even more trouble, despite attempts at disclaimers.

Safer if you have no self control or are generally stupid. Yes, I crashed at the beginning of the year (not in the snow, but a bit before)... but that's because I was being stupid, I'm happy to admit Smile.
Warmer - well, not while the car warms up at which I'm point I'm already going past the queues of traffic on my bike, snug and warm because I've got the right kit Smile.

As to the other view - I long grew out of the stereo typical 'cars are bad' teenage-biker thing (a little after my teens, but hey-ho). They can be fun and useful in many situations. I first got my car licence so I could better enjoy bikes (minimoto, trackdays, etc).

If 27cows had his way the only vehicle ever produced would be the RXS100 it seems Rolling Eyes Wink.

There is a thread in the for sale section for the bike, its 16 years old so dont expect a minter..

The draw will be held in an open event as i said, meaning a independant body will draw a name out of the hat.

Only reason i put this on here really was because the original forum does not have enough ACTIVE members to participate.

Im not interested in making profit, the more people there are, the less the tickets cost..

Smile

Also, the driving lessons are because i have a 8 month old daughter who can't quite reach the pillion pegs yet Wink and i need to be able to take her places Smile

Confused Quote: "Im not interested in making profit, the more people there are, the less the tickets cost.. :" So, the people that have bought a ticket for £5 would get a partial refund back? The logistics don't justify it, just a thought.

I'm guessing the ticket price isn't going to be set until there's enough interest to make it worthwhile. Personally, I'd just eBay it.

Email sent. If I win it's a bike for a tenner. If I loose its only a tenner. Hope the draw thing goes well. Why not film it and stick it on youtube?
