It's getting wet and dark out there now ladies... time to stop riding in MX shirt!

So need some reccomendations for reasonably priced

- waterproof gloves
- waterproof socks

reccomend me a waterproof jacket too.. but might stick with the waterproof over jacket I use currently..

wet hands and feet are the worst so would like to sort them first!

I got a cheap jacket from ebay for about £25 quid and it's never let a drop of water through it Thumbs Up definately reccomend it.

Ebay link clicky

Struggling to find gloves which are fully waterproof when the rain is really bad,i bought a pair of cheap leather gauntlets from a car boot sale which seem to be doing ok so far.

As for boots i still wear my rigger boots for rain riding which are 100% waterproof and being thermal lined are quite warm aswell Thumbs Up (also quite cheap to buy)

Been plenty of threads on here about keeping dry so shouldn't be too hard to get some ideas using the search button Wink

For waterproof socks, SealSkinz are the business but not cheap. If you are a TRF member, someone was doing them discounted to £25.

The likes of Tatters and G will have much more experience, but my limited 2 pence worth:

Feet:
I have sealskinz .. expensive and after a couple of months the abuse has damaged the 'waterproof' membrane .... I now have wet feet the same as wearing football socks.
I think someone (tatters?) mentioned that you can get ex army ones for much cheaper.

Hands:
I dont mind them wet ... cold I agree is an issue ... but I just use the normal mx gloves .. they are lightweight and thin and easy to wear when wet.
Just wring them out after each stop Smile
When it starts to get cold, then they are an issue.
Not figured this one out yet ... did buy some heated grips that are cr*p .. may try some proper oxford ones this winter.

Legs:
I ride with the mx 'jeans' I have .. they are are lightweight and padded nicely.
Then just cheap waterproof trousers (over the mx jeans)from Millets do the trick.

Body:
This is the bit I really hate getting wet ...and the only solution is a good waterproof enduro jacket.
Ebay is the place ... I got a really good Sinisalo one for about £40 ... loads of pockets, looks good, designed for armour underneath and totally waterproof (just been through some of the biggest puddles on the wettest ride for years .. and my top was bone dry. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
Now I have experienced the jacket .. I would buy new, even though they are about £160.

This isnt my one, but similar:

I've not been through a winter riding yet but:-

Gloves - I've been using an old pair of waterproof gloves up to now and the general advice seems to be to add a pair of rubber/surgical gloves underneath to keep dry.

Socks - ex-Army gortex socks at £8 a pair are just superb. Wear them over the top of my ski socks for warm, dry toes.

Rest of me - I've been using old hiking gear (North Face) with armour and layers beneath. Seems ok for now until I decide to invest in the proper kit.

I find that I get cold on the road riding to and from the meet up points, so have windproof stuff on under my waterproof jacket and I just take it off for the start of the ride and find I put it back on mid afternoon as I start getting cold again.

I have had my Sealskinz about 12 months, done around 1500 miles trail riding and they are still completely waterproof. You can fill them up when washing them and they hold the water like a balloon! I don't know how you managed to destroy them in two months but I hand wash mine, have you stuck them in a machine?

I second that. I have that same Sinsalo jacket and yesterday when it was lashing down, it was completely waterproof and warm. I paid £120 new, money well spent on a good bit of kit.

That may well be it then ... I wash mine after every ride in the washing machine.. then they get thrown into the tumble dryer Smile I suspect they were damaged that way.

I am a natural tightwad ... hate spending money and always search for second hand kit on ebay.
BUT - if this jacket gets worn out (unlikely for a good few years yet) and I cant find a good condition (almost new one) on ebay.. then I will go and spend £120-£150 on a new one ... they are that good !

Wrote half this a while ago and it got lost.
First off - don't you remember how much I moaned last Sunday Silky? Poor kit choice by me there Smile.

I have actually got some Dianese enduro trousers coming from another BCF member hopefully.

I did have sealskinz on my list of stuff to buy, but haven't yet. I have heard similar stories about the issues with puncturing them. Seems Silky's experince is far from uncommon - I did a load of research on advrider and the like, due to the issues I put them to the bottom of the 'to buy' list.

The combination of heated grips and muffs did me pretty well in the wet last weekend. Keeps most of the wind off and the heat gently warming my hands meant I wasn't too bothered by the wet.
(Ok, muffs aren't considered to be a typical greenlaning accessory, but they don't get in the way as much as I thought they might.)

After the advice on this thread, think I might have to keep an eye out for a Sinisalo jacket too - my HG tarty one does seem to work, but MUST be used with the liner to be waterproof and is pretty big when used over armour.
