Dear BCF tourers , be very careful about posting touring threads on here and remember to get a copyright logo on them , as bad things can happen.

EDITED

I've been offered a standard article fee and therefore this has been resolved.

Would have been nice if they asked me first but without paying a lawyer and or going through a legal process its been resolved.

So take them to court or something? Are you doing anything about it?

I'm just waiting on what happens I think the short time I have been back is not yet a reasonable time to wait.

Welcome back.
But i'll not be following a touring blog in the future. When you didn't update it, was left in limbo. 'Was he ok, where was he?' i haven't even met you Laughing

Picked a nice time of year to return...Brrrrr

Interesting.
Perhaps might be worth us investigating a standard copyright notice to add to such threads, if a simple (c) won't do the trick.

Oh and Thumbs Down about the bike being stolen, England tssk, an' that.

Sorry to hear about the theft of your article, and the bike.

In future it may be worth uploading a water marked PDF of the write up instead?

Good to have you back though.

O, is it actually in print yet?

If the price of freedom is selling your soul to the devil, I'll happily climb in the cage and pull the door too! Razz

An copyright notice should be enough, I'd hope.

Hi

Thought copyright applied automatically with no need for any markings.

However you might give away that right in the terms and conditions of any web site that you post it on.

All the best

Piston heads is tied to haymarket publishing I thought BCF was private and therefore had no ties.

Hi

More that if you had also put it on VD then you might have signed away your rights to it (paragraph 3). No idea if you did submit it there.

There is certainly nothing in the BCF terms of use about giving up your copyright rights.

Visor down magazine, formerly TWO magazine in my absence while in Siberia lifted my 2008 tour from BCF..

Which is why there will be no write up of the big one.

As someone has said, I'm almost certain that if it's your own work then it's automatically yours regardless of any copyright logo. Not having such a logo doesn't mean it can be ripped off.

Ripping it off in order to sell magazines and make money is pretty awful...

Glad to see you back Itchy.

Someone did post that the '08 trip had been published, the thought never crossed my mind that they hadn't spoke to you. Utter scumbag cvnts. If I was a reader of their magazine I'd stop buying it.

Ruining it for everyone else. I would really like to read about your trip but can't now because they wanted to fill some space in their shitty magazine. I wonder how often this occurs? I wonder if they trawl HUBB and ADV and publish other peoples work?

Perhaps you could do a private password protected blog or something? I hope you do something about it and wish you luck for your next trip Thumbs Up .

Pretty sure it's covered under intellectual property law even if it's not displaying a copyright logo.

Correct, copyright applies regardless of whether or not you explicitly state it.

I tend to view anything I have posted on an open internet forum as being fair game to anyone who comes along.

If there was something I wasn't happy about re-appearing just about anywhere, in any form, I wouldn't put it out in the public domain in the first place.

I see it as a bit like painting a picture and pinning it up on the village noticeboard then getting narky if someone took a photo of it.

It's a bit different when it's reproduced in a magazine that is sold for profit though.

stinkwheel, you'de be pissed off if someone else was making money out of something you had put a lot of effort into, and they didn't even have the decency to thank you or include your name in the article

Indeed - me printing the thread off and showing my mates would be fair game, but me copy/pasting it into a magazine then selling it to make money is another thing.
