Ah I hate these mother fucking callipers!

I've had 3 bikes with them now.

Every set I have had I've had to rebuild with new seals, which cost an absolute fortune and it doesn't make the slightest bit of a difference to the performance. The callipers seize no matter how much care and attention you give them. Last Christmas on the way down from Aberdeen to Newcastle they actually seized stiff onto my callipers, causing me to nearly crash. That was after a small service before I left!

I put new pads in my current Tokico's about 6 weeks ago and one side of pads is down to the metal already due to binding so much. The pistons look to be in good condition, I polish them whenever I service the callipers. There is no air in the pipes, just seems that there are many design flaws! Crying or Very sad

I have seen a guide to change them to k1/k2 GSXR1000 callipers but haven't got the money or time to do it at the moment.

Death to the Tokico 6 piston calipers!!! Twisted Evil

Never had a single problem with these calipers in terms of all year round use (and I dont particularly take great care of my brakes) or performance.

I found that changing the master cylinder seal on my Kawa made a lot of difference to the performance as I overhauled mine shortly after purchase of the bike(due to it's age).

Go and buy a tub of red grease as well, apply liberally.

its not the seals and pistons that are the prob with these.
you dont need to buy new either just a good clean and re-use unless they have gone hard.

you need to clean the recess that the seals sit in

the dust seal is the main culprit.

it needs scraping thoroughly and then rebuild with red rubber grease.

ps i just fitted nissin 6 pots to my 12r and there fab so keep a eye on ebay Thumbs Up

Not had a problem with mine...

Not the most powerful calipers on the planet, but they work fine Thumbs Up

I just blast um with brake cleaner and pour boiling water over them after a salty winter run

I hope that you scrape all the corrosion out of the seal grooves? Just, you dont mention that part in your post, and if you do, are you getting all of it? Do you put red grease in the grooves and on the seals? I've had problems with my SRAD calipers 4 potters though but i think its down to too much red grease.

I have to agree with the OP on this one.
Had nothing but grief with the set on my 9...

Two rebuilds within 6 months, copious amounts of red rubber grease and what do I get? A fecking leak. (yes, I prolly messed something up, I realise this Smile )

Never touched the calipers on the old bike, but never had the need to.

Saving up for new seals, pistons and half a ton of red rubber grease.
If that don't solve my problems, I will be looking for a change..

i also dont like the littel feckers, i ditched mine in favor for some 4 pots that i had spare from the zxr,
i think the 4pots have just as much braking power and ive never had to do a thing to them,
if i could get the 4 pot nissins to fit i would,

Since 2008 when i had them refurbed and braided lines changed to race set up, i had a problem with them.
Basically what i didnt know is the discs i bought from Ebay to replace the original Kawasaki ones were shite. Ive had to spend £250 on some EBC discs and my brakes are fine now.
Also check that your forks are in line, if they are set wrong by only a few mm in the yoke your brakes will be useless.

My 4 pots wont bleed up propperly, they wont pressurize and i can watch as the piston comes out and slides back in, too much rubber grease and seal roll is causeing this though i suspect, that or the pistons need replacing. Even with my braided hoses and K6 raidial master cylinder.

Had these on my 6rr last year and couldnt fault them at all. They were actually very good brakes.
The bike was a low mileage late model though so if yours arent working properly they probably need a good dealer service/overhaul.

dude the 6 pot tokico calipers are interchangeable with all bikes that have them fitted. if your having problem with these then change them to either the 4 pot tokicos or NISSIN 4 pots.

£50 for ebay for a set from a bandit 1200. and ou'll sell the 6 pots for nearly £100 so you will be laughing.

its regularly known throughout racing that these calipers were hard to bleed and peep would regularly complain of these issues.

i had the same on my gsxr750 and after changing to nissing 4 pots, the brakes were shit hit.

try bleeding them again if you cant be bothered to swap calipers but this time drain all the fluid from the system and start fresh, give the system time to dry out completely. also Worth trying taking off the lever from m/c and let the noggle pop out and then refit the lever as sometimes this can a small air bubble can be trapped, there.

good luck.
