I just wanted to send out thoughts to the family and friends of
Darren Mitchell who was tragically killed at Brands Hatch this weekend. I never knew Darren but I know many other riders on the circuit and I am sure they are all with you in spirit.

Good wishes to Mark Heckles and Dean Johnson, also injured in the same accident, and currently recovering in hospital. Good luck.

That's awful.
They didn't even mention it on TV.
My sincere sympathies to anyone close to Darren.

Hope the others make a quick and complete recovery.

Oh dear, very sad indeed!

Was that in races or track days?

It was the BSB weekend on the Brands Hatch GP circuit.
Proper race deal. Apparently there was a bad spill and I think 8 bikes involved.

We'll bring you updates on their conditions as soon as they are available.

All the best to those involved.

MCRCB Events, the organisers of the National Superstock Championship regret to announce the death of Huddersfield rider Darren Mitchell.

The 31-year old rider was involved in a multiple accident on the opening lap.

He was treated at the circuit, and the air-lifted by the Kent Air Ambulance to Maidstone Hospital where he died of his injuries later in the evening.

The other riders involved are receiving treatment in appropriate hospitals within the region.

Jamie Morley was airlifted, by HEMS, to The London Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Mark Heckles was transferred to the Queen Mary Hospital, Sidcup, with a broken pelvis and leg.

Dean Johnson was transferred to Darenth Valley Hospital, Dartford with a broken leg.

Paul Moojiman was transferred to Darenth Valley Hospital, Dartford for overnight observation.

I wish everyone a speedy recovery and my condolences to Darren's friends and family.

Things like this really bring it home to you how dangerous motorcycling is whether on the road or track. Sad

Unfortunately for the Beeb's FADING reputation where sports are concerned, they broadcast what happens 1 week after the event.

SKY have exclusive coverage of it all, and Grandstand gets the scraps a week later. Superbikes will be on either Sat or Sun this weekend coming.

Being the dilapidated dinosaur that it is, the Beeb is still convinced the only sports worth pursuing are tennign and footie, so that's where all the spondoolicks are flowing. I say BRING BACK KABADI!!!

Am I not right in saying that bike racing is the single biggest spectator sport in the UK?

It was when Foggy was winning the WSB and I know the Donington MotoGP had a record crowd last year...

Possibly for single event attendances, however I feel thats not a particularly accurate indication of its popularity.

Depends on whether you count the viewers for any other single sporting event. EG, maybe 10m people will watch a match at Wimbledon (not a clue really), but I doubt that anything other than a couple of matches will attract more than 1% of those viewers.

All the best

I would have thought that would be football, but I may be wrong (I usually am).

Cripes! I looked in mondays paper this morning to look for news of it, and the only thing in there was a tiny single paragraph tucked away at the bottom of the pages. all the sport was tennis and golf and cricket. A single column about the F1, nothing about any bikes at all.
Condolences to the family and speedy recovery to the other riders.
