Need a Bit of Advice

Right my dad passed his Car Test in 1979 i was just wondering if he would need to sit his Theroy test IF he decied to go for his motorcycle licence Resson why i am asking is because a mate of mine Didnt need to do a thoery for the car any help would be good thank u

From what you've supplied, I would say yes. He must take his Motorcycle Theory, even if he has done his Car Theory.

The motorcycle licence complies of three modules.

1. Motorcycle Theory (Basically same as Car Theory)
2. Module 1 (Off Road manoeuvres, swerve test since April 2009)
3. Module 2 (Street Riding skills)

i wasent sure as i no if u passed your bike test in a certin year u didnt need to take a thoery test for a car

My experience incase it helps:

Passed car test in 1994 (as far as I know that'd be the same test your dad took in '79, i.e. no theory test, no hazard perception, just physical test and a couple of questions)

Did CBT day in 1999ish but let it expire, no money to get the licence done.

Came back to bikes early this year, rang the DVLA to ask what i'd need to do, their response (and what i did) was that I needed:

- Theory Test
- Hazard Perception Test
- CBT
- DAS Course

The Theory & Hazard perception you have to book yourself in for a time slot at your local DSAgency, takes about 30 minutes and ~£30.

I did the CBT and Direct Access as a 4 day inclusive course, cost was about £550, it'll cost a bit more now and the DAS format will be different as it's module 1 & module 2.

When I asked the DVLA about what i'd have to do, they said i'd need the theory & hazard test as I hadn't done one for my driver's licence.. they also said that if i went through the booking system for the theory test it wouldn't let me book on to it if I didn't need it (you have to enter your driver details to book).
