I thought moving away from the suburbs of London would be like something out of the Darling Buds of May. Country folk, Land Rovers, swinging. Unfortunately, the old days seem to be long gone. People are just as rude, the kids still cocky and fighty, drugs everywhere, pissed up rowdiness, litter, boy-racers, feuds, life on benefits...
It's everywhere, it is all encompassing and is a time-bomb. Not forgetting the famillies whose kids have been killed by other kids, their bomb has already gone off, but what will happen to the country?
There are mothers in my vicinity who get pregnant by anyone that will fuck them, have the baby, council house, kid starts school and then another baby etc etc... and we not only pick up the tab for this lifestyle choice, but then become the victims of the crime and anti social behaviour their fatherless street-rats cause.
I've given up on the idea of 'my country', really. I was born here, raised here but I have no pride in it, no say in it and would very likely get the fuck out if it was made ridiculously easy for me. That said, I am concerned that the fundamentals, our standard of living, security, economy will be royally fucked when it depends on the kids of today.
What started all this? We've got everything we could ever need... I'm on a low wage and the only earner, but I can run 2 cars, a bike, pay all the bills have some to spend and stay out of debt. I know we moan, but really, everything is here for us, why are people so friggin angry with each other?
Why is everyone in a hurry... people risking overtakes to get 2 cars ahead and then turning at a junction... Kids with guns... what did we miss... or have we just come too far and we're bored, did we actually get to the top and now we're sliding backwards? ____________________ BCF's 6th favourite poster 2009-2010

I think life is just too easy these days, like you say. Work hard, earn good money, you could have a huge wealth of material things.
Do absolutely bugger all, waste your life, don't work, commit crimes, and you'll still get a decent enough handout to live in comfort. A lot of people start off on the bottom and never believe in achieving things.
What we need is another bloody good war, get national service running again, get kids scared of playing up, get them respecting laws, elders and manners and we'll start getting somewhere. ____________________ Previous: Aprilia Habana Retro 50cc (beauty), Yamaha SR125 (fell apart), Honda XR125 (nippy little commuter), Honda SLR650 (Geewhizz), Yamaha Diversion 900S (Smoooooth) written off courtesy of a stupid escaped horse.

There's no common enemy so we stagnate and fight amongst ourselves.
Without a group to rally against we form sub tribes and rally against other tribes - the 'chavs' vs the 'posh folk', old vs young, bikers vs cagers, pretty much every race vs every other... Humans just can't get along without adversity and because life is easy nowadays we try our best to screw it up. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

The devil makes work for idle hands. The challenge of surviving is no longer needed in this country.
But there's no single thing fucking things up.
[top of my head]
Religion...we no longer fear it.
Media/Arts...always pushing boundarys.
Familys...disjointed & spread far & wide.
To be frank, i can't be bloody bothered thinking anymore about it.
I'm too busy wringing my pants out.

I did something similar, moved out of the city and into a smaller town/village.
Only difference is, if the kids act up, they know who their parents are and if they'll do anything about it. The grown ups are the same, an equal mix of people trying to get by, people getting drunk and causing/not causing fights etc etc etc...
As for leaving this country? No, I think we have a bit of a duty to atleast try and improve it. And in anycase, what makes you think anywhere else is any better, the grass might be greener but it'll still be tended by human beings...
I've mentioned this film before, it's called Idiocracy, set 500 years in the future. All the intelligent people stopped procreating in the now because they didn't want to bring a child in to such a horrible world. All the stupid people kept at it like rabbits. Ergo; a future peopled by idiots with an average IQ of 60.
I think it's rather prophetic.

Have I stumbled onto the "Grumpy Old Man" forum?
p.s. I agree with all the sentiments apart from the one staying to help things get better.
We're already overrun with the scumbags down below and pillock-like MP's at the top who have NO idea of what's going on in the ordinary working mans life.
Oh no... I've exposed my Grumpiness now..... |

As much as I personally dislike religion it did provide a very easily defined sense of what is right and wrong. People effectively kept themselves on the moral straight and narrow ( well outwardly anyway ) for fear of reprisals from higher up or at the very least being shunned in their community.
With religion on the wain and very little earthly punishment people are doing what people do best and pushing the boundaries and seeing how far they can go. Sadly in todays society there are no boundaries and anyone suggesting there should be is usually castigated for being out of touch or bigoted.
The media also bear a huge amount of responsibility for what has gone on. Forever wanting to shock and excite it seems to suggest more than anything that hedonism is ok and sod the consequences.
Not sure if I prefer a society with strict rules and order or one like we have now where freedom is the key word. The problem with being free to do what you like is that every other bugger is free to do what they like to. ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

Like Keith said, too many people. We're sick of each other. Sick of being in each other's faces morning noon and fvcking night. Sick of the noise and the stink and the selfish greed.
I read a theory a few years ago, about how all species are programmed to self-destruct when the population gets too big for the available resources. Animal populations do it, they either fight or mysteriously go down to some disease, spreading it amongst themselves.
Nobody can know who'll die and who'll survive, but I don't think I'm alone in wanting to see this toilet self-destruct. And I guess that's the atavistic instinct showing itself, the desire to see destruction wipe everything away. If it comes quick, so much the better, I think that'd be the easy way out and good luck to every sorry fvcker who has to stay behind and live in the aftermath.
But before that happens we'll carry on with the daily grind, watching those at the top churning the sewer and feeding off the chunks. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

There are still little spaces left in this country - i recently moved out of a town (Hemel Hempstead) into the surrounding 'rural' area.
We moved from Hemel because we were sick of having to live around the kind of degenerate dross and detritus that dwell there.
We moved 13 miles, door-to-door - frankly, it feels like i've moved to an entirely different world!
The quality of life has improved for us (as a family) by about a million feckin percent, now i struggle to comprehend how i lived there ('Emul) for so long without actually killing someone. ____________________ Space Monkey #7

Its not entirely to be laid at the door of capitalism.
Its partly the fault of socialism: giving people money to do nothing.
Bit simplistic of an explanation, I suppose.
But it works for me.
The media has been very cleverly manipulated to direct people's attention upon the underclass rather than the "ruling" class (sorry, not a good word, but I cba to find the one I want).
If you allow these sort of people to annoy you, then they win and you lose (your sanity, mostly).
If you take a notion to be unconcerned with their nonsense, then it ceases to annoy you.
Concentrate on yourself, your life, your family (if you must, although even that can be surprisingly more transient a belief than one would expect) ... and put the irritants around you outside of your line of vision.
I know it seems hard to do when you are surrounded by it. But when you have the clarity of vision to say "Who they are and what they do is no concern of mine, and of no interest to me" - its quite liberating.
Its not selfish. Its a self-preservation thing.
Your karma, you are right, is suffering. Why get yourself all bitter and twisted over other people's lives. Its just a waste of energy that could be better spent in the pursuit of enjoying oneself. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life.

Your theory fails on one account, Japan, the odd one or two rebel and vanish off to other countries, but the population density in tokyo is incredible, same with Seoul. And yet they don't see to have to social problems of chavs and unemployment, it is considered utterly disgraceful and you lose face if you take welfare or you are not working.
That said there is of course low level crime, ie pachinko machines and swapping prizes for money in the A team van parked outside each and every pachinko place.
| aargh wrote: | Those are effects of capitalism. If you have an enemy in this system no matter you both believe in the same religion or have the same favourite team, even you are brothers or sisters. That's what I think. |
Again we run a mild form of capitalsm vs socialism, ie we have social welfare, Korea and Japan are hypercapitalism corporate states, there are barely any benefits and social security nets... and yet they are more capitalist than us and again do not have the same problems. Though in Korea and Japan I noticed an enourmous homelessness problem. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. People get angry with each other because their ego is under threat.
I'm against religion for many reasons but Buddhism has started to talk very clearly to me. If you take the ego away, train yourself to live life more within yourself rather than pushing your energy to the outside world... shit would bounce off you.
If you stopped 'craving'... if the hole we all try and fill actually ceases to exist, capitalism would fall and maybe we could get back on fucking track. The track goes round in a circle, by the way... it doesn't always have to fucking PROGRESS... Circles are what nature intended, not the fastest route to fucking oblivion. |
If you negate ego, what is the motivation to exist? Think about it. How much of what you do addresses the ego? It's also the lynch-pin of emotion, and what would you have without emotion?
The unconscious ego allows one to deal with the futility of existance. Once you make it conscious and question it the futility of existance becomes very hard to cope with. Deconstructing the psyche, it's dangerous ground. You subtract from Peter, Paul feels the pinch.
Consider this...this world is just the way it's meant to be. How you deal with it, what you do here, dictates the choices you may or may not get for the next life.
This world is a sewer, and I'm not talking just about what we've made of it. The disease (natural), the defecation, the fluids, the whole underlying natural coding of it, it's a sewer. Naturally, before we did anything to make it worse. Animals killing other animals in order to survive, all natural and 'correct'. WTF? Somewhere, out there, there are worlds with creatures that feed from sunlight. But you have to earn your ticket to them, serve your time on planets like this and rise above the shit.
Which is just a theory. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

I'm only 18 but i always get pissed off with lazy, ignorant shits my age, i know people that had kids when they were still at school and more people that just live on the doll doing absolutely nothing apart from drugs. i think its wrong that we have to pay for them to live when all it is is laziness, they could quite easily get their ass up off the sofa and get a job.
I think its wrong that we have to pay for foreigners too, it's got a stupid level in britain and nothing is being done about it. I worked in bristol not that long ago for a few days, think the place was called barton hill? anyway, there are loads of high rise flats full up of (excuse the racism) paki's and blacks, not one of em i heard could talk any good english and every one of them were on benefits. Why the fuck should a load of forgeign cunts be alowed to come to our country and we pay for them to live, for free? They should be sent back to where they came from in my opinion.
I think that's why society is so split because laws and rules apply to different groups and the hard working people find themselves paying for lazy, foreign people which is bad enough and then we get hastle from the rozzers when we try and enjoy ourselves becuase the police are shit and just take the easy cases. whether it be speeding, drinking or whatever.
I have no faith in the british government, personally i think my shit could run this country better than them, but until that day comes we're gonna have to put up with all their shit. ____________________ Riding as fast as you can sounds like a good speed to me

Sorry ashwell but I disagree with so much of what you have just written that im not even sure where to start
| Quote: | I think its wrong that we have to pay for foreigners too, it's got a stupid level in britain and nothing is being done about it. | That is hardly the perfect example of english... And besides that, racism is hardly going to make the country a better place, If we were to simply kick every foriegner out of the country, the whole society would fail, foriegn doctors have worked hard to get where they are, IMO foriegn medical staff have nearly always been better than their english counterparts, my white south african orthodontist, my black african GP and my indian dentist have all been brilliant, the reason they have jobs is because not enough english students are getting the qualifications to do the jobs! And besides the highly qualified workers when was the last time you saw a white person working in KFC or somewhere like that? cleaners etc are nearly always part of an ethnic minority, people complain that polish workers are driving down out wages, hardly! they're just more willing to work for less, its competition and people dont like it.
| Quote: | I think that's why society is so split because laws and rules apply to different groups | What examples do you have of that?
Sorry I have written this whole post out badly, but really there is alot wrong with what you have written IMO, to me you just sound like somebody who is looking to blame someone else for everything that is bad in your life/this country.
(just so you know, i am 19, moved out just over a year ago now, I struggled to get by on my wages for months, while the council decided that I earn too much on 12k a year to claim any sort of housing benifit, I still havent felt the need to blame anything on anybody)
Again apologies for the badly worded post, im not going to go back through the whole thing and reword it though.
