Hi. I've currently got a CBR600RR, but it's causing me a lot of back aches inbetween my shoulder blades. No problems with lower back. I'm selling it because of this and moving to something a bit easier on the back. I quite like the VFR, but haven't had chance to test ride one yet to see how the riding position compares. Has anyone ridden both that can comment on the differences?

Would also be interested to hear experiences on how other sports bike compare with the CBR600RR for riding position. Would love to be able to stick with a sports bike instead of moving to a tourer.

I had a very similar issue on my zx9 (with rear sets, standard clip ons.)
Turns out it was wearing my heavy caberg helmet (fine on my KTM 690 enduro) with the more 'extreme' position. Spent a while trying to work it out, but swapping back to a Shoei Raid sorted it.

So, err, no comment on the differences I'm afraid. Smile

Aprilia rsvr.....100 times worse than a 6rr.I kid you not!!!!
I think riding position issues are relative to height and weight aswell as a bikes design so what`s painful for one person might be a pleasure for others.
I had no problem doing 4-6 hour runs on my 6rr.All i got was a numb arse.It hurt my elbows and wrists a little when i first got it but that only lasted a few weeks.

If I remember rightly, the RST Futura's ergos very closely mimicked the VFR Vtec's and given how comfortable that thing was regardless of the mileage I clocked up on it in a run a VFR can't be a bad thing at all. As ever, if you see one up for sale local to you, give it a go before you put money down on the VFR as the RST is imho the better bike if you can put up with sourcing parts yourself, more power, more comfort (especially for pillions), less weight and it's far less complicated when it comes to service time.

you dont need to change bikes to change your riding position.

Convertibars, are adjustable, so you are high bars one minute, low bars the next.

https://www.convertibars.com/

Once fitted, you adjust with an allen key to the position you want for the ride you are about to do.

I've got some, just too lazy to fit them Smile They were a bargain not to be missed on ebay as someone was getting rid, and I had been thinking of buying some for a while.

I'm not selling mine, as I'm sure I'll fit them one day Smile

You may need a longer throttle cable though.

I used to get a similar ache from my RR, before I adjusted my positioning slightly. It turned out that my elbows weren't dropping enough and I was craning my neck - actually looking downwards slightly when riding, as if looking down my nose a little.

Dropping my elbows and making sure my chin was tucked in properly helped.

Another odd thing, I got a pain between my shoulders when riding my XR125 - a sit up and beg bike. Turned out my positioning wasn't right again - if anything, I was sitting too far bolt upright.

I test rode a VFR750 a few years back and found it immediately comfortable in the way that I didn't need to readjust my body position, or make a conscious thought to do so. But overall, apart from at speeds less than 60mph or so, my RR wasn't any less uncomfortable. Although, after 120 miles or so, the RR's seat did get a little hard.

More people kill themselves from the boredom of riding a VFR than were killed under the regime of Pol Pot.

FACT!
