Hi i am planning a trip to norfolk on my cagiva mito 125 2 stroke screamy thing, it runs fine, but i havent ever ridden it this far before.

Is it likely to make it there (80m) and back, on the A10.

also what speed is it safe to keep it at as much as i would love to stay at 99mph(so i dont lose my licence) i know the fuel consumption would be mad?

Also any other tips you can give me would be great.

Thanks
Jay

You only need a change of undies, socks, a T shirt and a toothbrush. Put them in your pockets and leave the tankbag at home.

Is this meant to be a serious post or tongue-in-cheek? Confused

It's 80 miles on a motorbike, I do that twice a weekend on my bicycle, I'm sure a motor can manage it... Neutral

You might need to refill your fuel tank at some point on a trip of that length.

In Norfolk you should be careful with fuel purity, it's often poor quality and very old and may not meet the RON specifications of western civilisations (Norfolk is in the east).

There's various other things you'll need to take with you such as your passport, Norfolk is in East Angular so it's classed as abroad.

Lastly, always boil the water you drink, it's often contaminated and you can catch hepatitis.

P.S it might be wise to pack an emergency beacon, Itchy recently vanished for months in Mongolia and nobody knew where he was, anything could've happened. A trip to Norfolk can be dangerous and unpredictable, such an epic journey should be approached with nothing but full preparation.

I've done nearly that mileage on a push bike in a day i'm fairly sure something with an engine shouldn;t have a problem. If I go out for a fun ride at the weekend I will usually do at least that.

I had a cagiva planet (the naked version) and that made a 200 mile trip easier enough. Although yeah, it's broken down twice, I did try my best to maintain it as I loved that bike. However just in case the worst should happen, make sure you have a backup plan Razz Nothing is worse than being stranded in the cold, especially in weather like this!

If you're worried about breaking down you need:

Arrow Breakdown cover
Arrow Food
Arrow Water
Arrow Fags (if you smoke)

Simple.

80 mile trip doesn't really need thinking about mate. Wallet in your pocket, jump on and ride.

You should probably write a will before leaving as that trip will be incredibly dangerous.

99mph so you don't lose your license....
1. Your bike doesn't do 99mph
2. You could be banned for doing 75 if the courts wanted to, less than 100 doesn't mean you don't get banned and over 100 doesn't mean definitely being banned.

If he's successful, maybe Charlie and Ewan can recreate the trip for TV next year.

Me, my brother and his friends (on a cagiva mito 125) went for a ride (spur of the moment thing) about that far. Was a good ride, made even better by the antics of this mito....

About 20 miles in, brother indicates for us to pull over. We pull over and turns out my brother's friend's L-plate had come off. No bigger it happens. Its a bank holiday and there is going to be lots of police about so we try get one at this local petrol station. No look only the magnet ones.

Meh, we carry on with our ride up to another petrol station. Get there and find only the magnet L-plates again. Then brother's friend complains that half the electrics on his bike have stopped working (quite literally the left hand side of the bike didn't work (e.g. left side indicators, left side brake light). I wet myself with laughter, as does my brother, his bike is very nice. It's a very clean example of a mito 125.

Anyway carry on with this ride. Coming back on this awesome road (Hawes to Ingleton) we all end up leaving each other and going at our pace. Come to the end of the road, brother's friend pulls up a long side us.

"Wheres your number plate gone Sam?"

"What do you mean?" he replied.

We move off the junction and pull over. Sam jumps off his bike and looks at the back of his bike, no number plate or L-plate the whole lot gone. His gloves are then hurled across this villiage green and off he starts.

"urgh fooking bike always breaking down blah blah blah"

I was crying with laughter as was my brother. We still had about 25-30 miles to get home. So we went to the nearest petrol station and made him a number plate with cardboard and cable ties. Me and my brother (both past our tests) also found it necessary to him a cardboard L-plate too (which added oser in small letters after the L). I have got a photo of it somewhere... Shall find it when I get home on my computer next.

Probably one of the funniest rides I have been on.

Anyway that was around 90 miles or more on a Cagiva Mito 125. You should be fine Thumbs Up

That could have happened to any bike though.

Not really? Some bikes don't even have carbs, and while it could happen to any bike that does, it's sure never happened to me and probably not most bikes out there.

It's not something only associated with the Cagiva Mito though. It's caused by dirt getting into the carb from the fuel tank, so could happen to any bike that has dirt in the tank. Yes I know it wouldn't happen with a bike with FI but don't be picky.

80 miles is nothing for a 2T 125, most runs i do on my RS are just over 100

did 280 miles in a day on it - didn't skip a beat

so i'd say go for it

long as it's not sitting at high revs for long periods of time. keep the revs fluctuating, without having the PV open for too long and it'll be all smiles Very Happy

I seized my Mito on the M1, ended up hitching home without break down cover which was interesting...
So how much do you want for it if your flogging it? mine didnt skip a beat till the day it blew
