does anyone know

if you have a brand new bike (less than a year old) stolen, does the insurance company have to replace the bike like for like?

and if i claim on the bike im going to loose my no claims will the insurance company charge me double for the same bike after a claim?

I believe that they'll work out the value of the bike and then make you an offer. You can 'haggle' that offer, showing them adverts from bike trader and suchlike for bikes the same as your stolen bike.

Very doubtful unless you have Gap insurance https://www.surfandprotect.com/motor/gapinsurance/default.asp

As for loading, who knows? You will lose your NCD, unless protected and even then your premium is likely to be loaded.

Most companies run 'new for old' on private car and commercial vehicles policies so i would presume the same applies to bike pols so if the bike is less than 12 months old they will replace it with a new one, some companies only do it on 6 months though.

Read you T/C from your ins company. It will be in there if they do.

If you have 50% NCB then its a fair guess you will be paying in effect double if you lose ALL your NCB. You also mya find that it get loaded a bit more as well.
Again consult your T/C as it should state how much NCB you lose per claim.

Yes, but you didn't look after it very well, else it wouldn't have been stolen. Wink

Too late now but you should have chained it to something solid. From the sounds of it your bike could have been taken within a minute and thrown into the back of a van. Even the biggest bikes can be lifted with ease. Sad

Loading - to load the policy with more costs. I.e - you have lost your no claims so that loads the policy and you have highlighted you live in a high theft risk area - more loading.

You didnt have a accident, nor did you hurt anyone - but you are making your insurance company shell out none the less. So expect a dry finger or 2 up your rectum when you take out your next policy. Thumbs Up

Loaded....

Example.
Your policy was £200, but you had 50% NCB so pay £100

You claim and lose the 50% NCB.

So you expect that a like for like policy will be £200.

Nope....

Because you have now altered the stats for you area and have a claim. A new policy will be £300 as you are now a higher risk.

I would have thought its more likely to be a well worked gang targeting expensive bikes, rather than your average pikey....

yea it seemed organized the hayabusa is heavy and it was locked , would take a few big men to shift it.

my policy was 1000 third party fire and theft
with 4 years no claims

i bet it will rise to 2k??

One claim shouldn't knock out all your NCB, just part of it. Iirc (and it's been a few years since I worked in the industry) you should go down to 2 years NCB now.

Which is why many people don't bother claiming for lots of things, because the claim will be with you for the next five years.

And law regarding what, insurance? There are lots of laws...

Hi

Nothing law wise about the no claims bonus. How much you lose will depend on the insurance company. Some might take all of it. Some might not take any for a single claim.

All the best
