£11,000, to effectively do nothing more than 'reset the safety'.

Pretty much along the same lines as Mitsubishi wanting £600 for a new g-meter (I took mine apart, a shonky little PCB worth about a quid in the real world) and £1200 for an ECU, which when I looked at that was less impressive than the PCB from a £10 transistor radio. I did some creative re-wiring to get around the MOT failure that would otherwise have necessitated a purchase of one of the aforementioned components. The guy with the Nissan should have done the same.

These fucking parasite companies need to be prosecuted for fraud and conspiracy to defraud. They're not fitting this kind of shit for genuine safety reasons, they're fitting it because they know it'll be triggered by next to nothing and then they can charge whatever the fuck they like to re-set it or your car's going nowhere.

£11,000 to close the bonnet. Scum.

Now, maybe I'm being silly here, they're all on about re-flashing the ECU and such. Why can't they just disconnect the wires from the rams? If they aren't connected to anything, they can't go off.

It kinda makes sense the way the system works. There are new european laws which mean the bonnet on all new cars has to be a certain distance from the engine so that the pedestrians impact energy is absorbed by the bonnet (which is relatively soft and flexible) as opposed to the cylinder head (which is pretty damn hard and nearly immobile).

I suspect that Nissan designed this system to get around that law, but I still can't believe that it cost £11000 to reset it. That is scandalous.

Surely the rams can be re-usable, along with the ECU and probably the bonnet if the driver didn't actually hit a pedestrian?

I think Nissan realised that the people who will be buying this car can either afford to pay to have it fixed, or will go through the insurance. There's no way in this day in age that this safety system requires a one use ECU.

Renault (who basically own Nissan now) are well known for making components that they know will break and then charge loads for replacement parts.

Take for example window regulators. Ever since the original Scenic came out they have been shit quality items on all Renault models (and still are), then they have the cheek to sell the complete regulator with motor for £200 + labour, when all they need to do is replace the plastic pulley wheels with metal ones. For over ten years they have been ripping their customers off with just this one scam.

Nissans have now inherited these money making components since Renault bought into them when the new Primera was released. Strange that .

A lot of these cars will be destined for the track, so do Nissan offer an £11k cheaper track model? Do they fuck.

Does the 11k include the cost of hire car and the insurers bill or something because some of the parts prices on there don't reflect the overall claimed bill.

5 weeks worth of storage + hire car + parts + labour + delivery + solicitors = 11k? Sounds a bit more likely than an ECU and some 'rams'.
