what do i need to do to get my full licence

right it seems that there are many ways to get a full licence and i am getting confused on how much i will need to do and to spend to get mine. I know that i will need to do a theory test and a practical test but i was wondering if i need any lessons under my belt or could i get my dad to teach me

Assuming you already have a valid CBT, then like you say you need to take a theory test and practical test.

Depending on your age, you can either take the 'A2' route or the 'Direct Access' route.

Age 16 - Wait 'til your 17 CBT + 50cc only.
Age 17 to 21 - A2
Age 21+ - DAS

Depending on the firm, the price varies, but personally i paid £100 per day and had 2 days training. I think that alot of firms do an evaluation lesson - where they tell you how many lessons (or days) they think you will need based on a supervised 1-hour or so ride.

If you have your own bike its definitely possible to see yourself through the test but i think its recommended that you seek some professional training. Even if perhaps just a few lessons or 1 day? But having your dad to help would be well beneficial. Also the DSA books are handy.

You can book the tests by yourself so theres nothing stopping you. The 'new' format test i cant help with as i took the 'old' one but all i know is that its split into two modules (1. off-road £10 and 2. on-road £70) Theres plenty of information available all over the 'net

Google training schools in your area and compare them. Cheapest doesnt always mean best but expensive ones dont always guarantee quality. Try and get reviews from friends or other bikers who have trained with them.

yeah thats helped me quite abit thanks i think im going to get a 125 for a bit to get used to gears on the road and then start thinking about getting a bigger bike

this is exactly what i did. i wanted a bike right away and the wait for a test was about 2.5/3 months and by that time i would have moved away to uni, so i got a 125.
great way to learn. after 6months or so on a 125 i passed my A2 with no lessons. just hung round here for a while and got one of my friends to ride behind and point out what i was doing wrong.
got 3 minors on my first test
make sure you can emergency stop using BOTH brakes in all conditions and do a u-turn without even thinking about it

I really wanted to do DAS but the first opportunity I have to do that is now Feb half term (can't take holiday time off work, got to stick to school holidays). I did my CBT last month, bought a 125 and found that riding that is helping me a lot more. My boyfriend rides behind me and tells me what im doing wrong or right. Im building confidence up on a smaller bike so that all I have to worry about is transferring what I know onto a bigger bike.

Does that make sense?

How confident are you? And how desperate are you to get onto two wheels?

well i am already on a ped but im getting sick of it i want more out of it . i am a bit too confident on it at the moment went too low round a corner the other day and just felt it slipping away from me. ive still got a while to wait until im 17 to even be able to get on a 125. good luck with your DAS when you get round to it
