Tax disc refund on stolen bike and what next?

Since the XT has been stolen and the cop dealing with my case gave me a call saying there are no longer any leads unless somebody attempts to get a change of ownership thing.

I'm going to obviously get a refund of the tax disc which I keep in my wallet only 6 months left on it but beats nothing right...

Anyway will the DVLA accept a printed out version of the V14 form? I have a printer here and stamps here and the post box is just round the corner.


In addition to this what else do I need to do, I assume the DVLA have been informed by the police that the XT has been stolen what further action needs to be taken by me? other than De-insuring it (which will probably cost me £25).

Do I need to return the V5c or something?

it will cost you around 70 quid to cancel maybe depends on your insurance but don't do it till after you get paid out, you could get it back yet as well

Yes - I've done the same thing with a printout.

why do you have to pay to cancel insurance? Surely you have already paid for the year and it benefits the company if you don't want any cover even though you've paid for it.

How can you de-insure it? Aren't you going to make a claim?

Yup I'm afraid so, my insurance expired a week before I left for me trip, and thus I needed the insurance to get out of Europe and chose the lowest cheapest possible insurance.

Can't you keep the insurance and transfer it to another bike?

Failing that, don't tell the insurance company and let it run out so you get another year's NCB.

Because they are insurance companies.
Difference between a bike thief and an insurance company? The thief goes to jail for robbing you.

Nah its a multibike policy hence I remove the XT the insurance policy continues on the CBR...

I don't see the point of continuing to pay for something that I'm not using (twas annoying as hell to have both my tax and insurance and MOT run out days before my departure).
