Obscured tail light.

Out for a ride this afternoon. Come up behind three guys, all on BMW tourers (of various colours ages and types). All with Hi Viz yellow jackets Go along for a couple of miles. Tail ender get detached from other two, I overtake him and then catch up with the middle guy.

Something odd about his braking light, seems to flicker. As I get close it is obscured by a bit of black cloth. completely, can't see tail light or brake light.

As we come to a roundabout I get a close look, he has hung a bikers balaclava over it. It can't be by mistake, rest of tail is tidy, no luggage etc. It's not hanging low enough to obscure his number plate.

Anybody think why (the middle guy only) did this?

Sounds like he has just put it there as somewhere to hang it while his lid was off and with it only just starting to get cold and not used to wearing one, forgot to put it back on.

I forgot I had my waterproof trousers on yesterday, desperate for a piss, ran in to the bogs at the service station and nearly pissed myself trying to get my leathers fly down forgetting about the over trousers.

was it soft lugage? Some people put fabric between paniers and fairings to protect their paintwork, this old boy probly just had a bit too much overhang.
