new guitar to add to the collection

yep I had to do it, my 4th Ibanez EW series
this time a 12 string, the EW 3512 QME TCB

had my eye on this for a while and had to get it imported from Germany
as this model isn't available in the Uk
its a dream to play action is very good with the factory string's and they sound good
only problem I have is my capo doesn't work well on it as its a hard rubber clamp one
on the E and A strings the harmony string rattles as the capo is sitting on the much heavier guage
main string and not putting any pressure on the lighter guage harmony string
so it doesn't fret properly so I need to look for a capo that will work on it

but thats an issue with the capo, I can't fault the guitar in any way
I thought it would rip my fingers up a bit
but not in the slightest and I'm playing a lot of songs on it that I'd never have thought I could do
its given me more confidence to try stuff I normally thought of as too hard for me to learn

anyway here's what I bought
the other guitar is the 6 string version of the same range

I've never understood how you're supposed to play 12 strings - how can you fret things properly? As for fingerpicking, well, the mind boggles..... I've heard dudes playing them in shops before, lovely sound comes from them.

I have enough trouble playing 6 stringed guitars adequately, not sure doubling them would help me too much....

Anyways..congrats on your new baby..nice bit of maple. Hows it sounding through your amp? I've considered getting an Electro-acoustic, but usually mic up my acoustics, or use my Variax which has some useable guitars.

I try the wife's 12 string occasionally, but as I tend to play more of a finger picking style than strumming, it's bloody hard and I give up after 20 minutes. Does make picking a 6 string up a lot easier afterwards though

playing some 12 strings is hard but normally because the action is too high
or the strings are too heavy but get a good one with good strings and there not much harder to play
I'm playing this one almost as well as I do the 6 string unless its a lot of bar chords
then its sore on the fingers but I love it to bits and it sounds great

I seriously start to prefer the tone of my strings after they are "worn in" rather than when they are new though. Each to their own though I guess. Must be like old people preferring the hissing and pops from their favourite LP's as they used to hear them back in the day.

You can;t beat the clean and slender tone of a fresh deck of strings on the neck, it's good motivation to kill 3-4 hours riffin away.
