3 hours into an electricity cut and we are well.
I have been making cups of tea using a saucepan and listening to a wind up radio.
The trip to the garage for the candles was fraught with danger but i steeled myself and didnt show the kids my fear.
We have no cooker but surviving on tea, wham bars and yoghurt which we have to eat up as the fridge is warming up now.

thanks god I have some form of internet on the mobile phone and am able to access bcf.

its like 2012 here.

Apologies for the post grammar or spelling but i am using my blackberry which is very slow and frustrating.
wish me luck.

no electricity + 4hrs.

the wife decided that the kids have to sleep in bed with us tonight as its cold and dark. to be honest that has just made my evening worse.
as has the realisation that i missed jordan getting wet and slippery in her bikini.

i have a 2500 watt inverter in the garage and 2 truck batterys that last for ages. can run a kettle and tv and adsl modem off that easy i reckon. it is stored for just such an emergency in the dark garage at the end of the dark garden. behind the 17 boxes of crap and 3 bikes and 4 push bikes and half a bed and a broken hoover and assorted things that I have no chnace of moving in the dark.

at least I am learning what I need to prepare for the next time / armageddon.

we have run out of wham bars. its getting pretty desperate here.

If you had a Sony Ericsson K750i you could just put the torch on and find your electricity Razz

You could even tape it to your head to make a budget head torch Laughing

Whatever you do don't tell the wife you're just going outside for a little while, or she'll panic thinking you're making the supreme sacrifice!

no electricity + almost 5 hrs

Batterys have run out on one of the torches and the wife has decided that she doesnt like the smell of the candles . yet she still expects me to come up with a plan for lighting the place cos the little darling kiddies will get fu*king scared if they need to go to the loo.
what does she want from me ? what can I do for f*cks sake. make light come out of my arse. look up there love and see whats shining you dozy cow.
Yes dear i know its my fault my inverter is unreachable.

I think the lack of sugar due to the kiddies tuck box being raided and having now run out is causing tempers to fray.

rang EDF energy . thats a joke. and they have said there is no guaranteed continuous supply of elec to public services and that if it goes on for 18hrs they will give me 50 quid.
how does that compensate for no jordan in bikini. i dont think the edf person really understood what the situation is like here.

The good news is I have found my air rifle and pellets.

The BT master socket will be 50Vdc, you can get it down to 12/24Vdc to run some limted low power lighting etc but you would need to make a step down iron core transformer something l,ve done before when very bored. Laughing

Resist the urge to procreate. Sex is better when you can see where you're putting it, and avoid a slapped face...again.

To be fair, if having the kids in the bed isn't enough to put him off procreation, no electricity is the least of Silky's problems Mr. Green

Cheers

I am alive ! Manned up and stared adversity in the face.
At midnight the electricity was still not up ... so we hunkered down and blew out the candles (figured I could see better through the windows and get a better shot with my air rifle if needs be).
Once everyone was asleep I managed to polish off a packet of blackjacks that I had hidden (from the begging hordes) ... that kept me going (what with no tv or internet etc).
Woke up at 2am when all the lights went on and the tv started blasting out the sirens of a cop car.

I am going to dig out the inverter this weekend and set the batterys up to a constant trickle charge etc.
Plus may get a torch that mounts on the rifle .... and seal a tin of wham bars / blackjacks / fruit salads.

Thanks for being there for me guys ... its nice to know I have your support ... and I hope you can learn something about survival from this post.... be good to know I may have helped someone in the future.
I may write a book.

Book? I think you should have your own TV series. Sod all the Bear Grylls and Ray Mears trekking across Antarctica or through the mountains of Afkrakistan with nothing but a pointy stick and a bandana, this is real survival that the average joe can relate to.

In that situation, petrol generator/s FTW!! Cool

I've got 2 ... so next time you have a powercut, let me know and I'll sell/rent you one/both for a ridiculous amount of money* ... Very Happy

BTW, a kettle is going to drain your inverted battery power in no time. However, if you rig up a series of energy saver lightbulbs**, then you can probably light your household all night, no problems!! Smile

*I'm good like that!! Laughing
**and a series of radios at max volume to drown out the wife's nagging
