So when the end comes (or is nigh), what weapons will you build to defend yourself and family from the scum that walk the earth (crims and govt alike)....??

I'd make something similar to this... Just a bit more range and fill the wine bottle with petrol.... Like a fiery grenade launcher....

Ideally if i had a choice of weapons i would go out all times in full leathers carrying:

On my back:
Katana Sword
Shotgun

Holster:
Glock 17/Desert Eagle

Main Weapon:
M4 Carbine

In reality given that our government see's it fit to keep us unarmed and defenceless i would go out equipped with:

Metal Baseball bat
Air Rifle and an assortment of large knifes.

thats a fun toy, but i wouldnt call it a weapon.

You'd be better off with a kitchen knife or garden spade.

I reckon a garden spade would be pretty good as a weapon, stab at people with it, or swing it like an axe.

Not very mad max, but a bit more practical.

Since I own two bows, a crossbow, an epée and two ninjaken (not quite a katana: they're straight blades), I reckon I'll be ok.
One of my closest mates also happens to be alarmingly good with explosive things, too, so I guess I'm pretty well sorted... Very Happy

The flamey bottle projector is something I've been thinking about for many years now....

Obviously their thing is pretty crap but at least it fires a bottle a little way. I'd mod that basic sorta thing pretty heavily, try making a ballistic cap for the bottle etc Although my designs always used compressed air for some reason.

Its not so much a hand held weapon either in my eyes.... Mounted on a little trolley or on the back of a truck to be a poor mans area weapon sorta thing.....

if you look at the way that wine bottle comes out of the tube, you will realise that you could throw it harder yourself.

mounting it on a trolley, or a truck, for a one fire 'weapon' of little power seems a bit daft

its a fun toy

however, i should enter into the spirit of things

here's another fun toy weapon

a coil gun

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BdwxiZX6Is

supersoaker flame thrower, may count as an effective weapon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yFUtJhUb7Q

still not as effective as a kitchen knife or a garden spade though

admittedly, this is a stylized spade, and he is posing doing yoyo style tricks, but you get the idea

If it comes to that, people who have guns will survive and rule.

I would like a pair of properly meaty knuckle dusters, a proper combat knife, an axe, garrotting wire and Ray Mears.

I've been after a Glock knife for a while now...

I think that is a "combat" knife but I think it would be a generally good bushcraft knife too. I'm not kidding myself at all, I know the sum equivalent of fuck all about knife fighting so the combattyness is quite a secondary function....

I quite like bows and crossbows. In close country almost as good as a gun, bulky but quiet and still take a man out easily.

Anyone know what the effect of an arrow from a good bow does to kevlar body armour? Its the opposite of what a "bulletproof" vest is designed to stop. Big slow and heavy versus, light small and fast...

The only weapon to have is a compound bow with 60lb pull, as the arrows are reusable, it is almost silent... they are also redily availiable to the public.

Guns are not , bullets are most definately not reusable. and you do not have the risks associated with close in hand to hand combat either which makes it a perfect post apocalyptic weapon.

Perhaps you would be interested in the Spetnaz ballistic knife, they are so nasty even the Americans declare them totally illegal.

Longbows are good.

Axes have that "get the fuck out of my face" factor although you need to be big to effectively wield an axe.

Historically though, you can't go wrong with a short bow and a machete.

There was a press report of an archery battle in Africa fairly recently using homemade shortbows and machetes.
Fuck yeah, shortbows! Anyone fancy taking them on?

Most people should be able to handle a 60lb longbow with a bit of practice. I used to fire a 40lb bow when I was 13.

So, go for a 100lb + draw weight on a compound, then you can use the big fuck off double-blade arrow heads and heavyweight arrows. 100lb draw would take some training to get back to the lock point mind but the arrow velocity and strike energy is pretty awesome, it'll take down a bear.

Add a sling to that, for lobbing fireballs around too.

If someone came at me with these.... https://www.trophyridge.com/broadheads/

....I think I would quite justifiably shit my pants. I would expect the same of pretty much anyone on the recieving end....

FFS, its basically a load of razor blades that open up to cut a 2" hole in ones person, not a particulary fun sounding experience...

I'd have to go with...

Knuckle duster, assorted knives, two baseball bats, axe, crowbar, machete, air rifle, general household chemicals mixed to the required quantity and the bottle of cheap aftershave someone gave me as a present that I use to clean oil patches off the drive with, it's more potent than badgers piss so it's got to come in handy somewhere...Could possibly put my hands back on the Glock 17 and Walther PPK BB/pellet guns and the katana...

Realistically:

Air rifle with scope
2 air pistols in holsters
80LB crossbow and a range of bolts (crossbow on back, bolts on a belt)
Machete
Thermite pouches for demolition purposes
A hatchet on a belt loop
Spud bazooka at wherever my hideout is, 300mph tennis balls can do a bit of damage.
