I had a sit on a Harley yesterday, with the engine running, giving it a good blipping. I have to say, if a bunch of money comes my way I can see me getting one.

No Flip, didn't ride it. I suppose I should really, just to see what one is like in actual motion.

Heavy and shouty, is the impression I get.
I like shouty, but the styling and handling really puts me off. Plus the associations with chaps and tassels.

I had never put you in the 'I want a Harley' category. The only people who own them in town are old, bored overpaid banking executives or rich kids who got bored of scooters. Unless you're planning a trip on a freeway in somewhere like Missisippi. Missouri or Arizona etc. I think they are completely pointless. Get a big BMW instead - less chrome.

This would be what I'd go for, though I'd prefer twin discs up front. Fat Boy Special (around £15k brand new).

Buying a harley is as pointless as middle aged men who buy new BMW GS,s and get all gearup like a Ewan McGregor wanbees for there "Long way down" to the south of france with there ugly fat wife on the back.

your better off getting a jap or triumph crusier/classic with a desent set of pipes.

Jap, BMW and Triumph all look like shite though (the Rocket's not too bad however) and don't have the appeal for me. If I'm going to ride a tractor it'd have to be a Harley, because that is the ultimate example. The history, the look, the sound, the ease of working on them...

I love the look of that Very Happy Proper bike. Massive grunty motor. But without the stigma of being a custom riding gaylord* Laughing

if the sound/blipping of the throttle whilst stationary is all it took to suck you in......what you really need is a big sports v-twin with some cored (or race) pipes on it,..just like mine Wink
A harley might sound good...but it`ll handle like a pig in comparison to a sportsbike.

I've always had a hankering for a Harley, from when I was very young and the idea of the bike with a tent on it and everywhere to go stirred the imagination. Kind of like that pioneer/western lone-gun outlaw ethos. Stuff.

I borrowed it for a couple of days - and did rather enjoy it.

I'm with you on that one although not the Harley, always wanted a Chop' and aim to have one at some stage, although that may be sooner rather than later due to a knackered thumb as the sportsbike riding position is killing my hand of late.

As for the tent side of it I've done it on all the bikes I've owned ( see sig' ) and continue to do so on the SV, I try and do a rally a month, although due to the lack of work at the moment I've had to give it neck ( the lads payed for me to go to one earlier this month as I hadn't done one for months ) or we load the bikes up and piss off somewhere and camp out for the weekend ( basically camping gear and as much lager as you can get on the bike, pitch the tents and act like kids for 48 hours )...

I did have a point to this but the Missus has just asked me a stupid question and my train of thoughts gone Neutral ...

Ever thought about a Chop' instead ?...
