Motocross track in Devon/Plymouth

Just finished restoring my XT 600 and have not managed to take it off-road yet. If anyone knows of any Motocross/Green lane tracks around the Plymouth area i would appreciate it. I don't mind paying £10-£20 to get on there if its decent.

brixton motocross track open saturdays, entry about a tenner

landrake motocross track. not sure if its public. just events.

another one towards tavistock thats the same price as brixton on some guys farm every other sunday of the month

apparantly theres one in ernsettle, but ive never been or seen it.

First off, it's probably worth working out what you want.
I suspect you're not aware that generally motocross tracks look like this:

I've seen people take DRZ400s onto such places, but your bike's going to come in at over 50% heavier than your typical motocross bikes.
Some 'practice tracks are a bit more sedate, but I still wouldn't using that bike personally - and you'd definitely be wanting decent motocross/enduro tyres on it.

You do get a very few 'enduro' tracks that have open practice days.

Greenlanes are trails open to (until they get closed by moany ramblers) any road legal vehicle.
These are your best bet. If there's no one on here, talking to your local TRF group is a good first step.

If you dont mind the trip down there is a old quarry called baldhu. Its near truro. Not many people no about it but its good entry is £5 i think and its got loads of different tracks to follow or make you own. youtube the name and you get some videos up.

Its about a 10-15 acre site you could spend all day there and not get bored.

cadover bridge, burrator down or the clay works... hardly ever anyone around apart from the odd horse rider.. be considerate and noone will bother you...

not unless its marked on os maps as a boat (byway open to all traffic).. All the paths are bridleways up there so horses only..

be careful and you'll be alrite.. dont annoy people or scare people on their horses and noone will bother u. if you do get bothered just play dumb and you'll get let off.. You get warned the first time. the second time you'll get your bike taken off ya.. (£100 to get it back!)

and dont think the old bill wont go up there cos ive seen em on bmw's.. some counties they are riding KTM's!

You need to be really careful up there mate, i rode up there earlier today and there was a dartmoor land ranger sat there with his camera! try lopwell dam for your first green lane that's a nice start!

prob better riding this time of year.. its summer time when all the walkers are out an about that you wanna be careful.

I like riding in the clay works and around lee moor.. just keep yours eyes open and disappear if things look dodgy

Ive only just got my bike sorted and i dont quite trust it at the minute so it would be nice to have a helping hand if it all went wrong

i had ago on the ernysettle track when it first opened. it was very sticky and wet not worth the 20 quid, i think geralds farm is the best imo, out buy berealston its got a small track and the large track that goes down in the valley you will need a good seet of tires very steep hills. around loopwell ther is alot of forestry comission me and my frends reguarly go in ther.

I know this topic is coming on 12 months old but i thought if i post on it people might be able to help me with some locations or phone numbers.

I and new to the Moto scene and want to get into motocross, i own a yamaha YZF 250 (not road legal Nor do i have a bike licence)
I want to get as much practice as i can before the 2011 motocross season starts.

I am about 40miles away from plymouth (Kingsteignton, Devon) so was wondering if there are any off you that go/know of any places close that i could go to.

I dont mind paying to ride.

Any help would be great cause i have nothing at the moment

Brixton is great. Loads of mates go up there and its a tenner. He now looks after the track and is always changing it. I started there, now I have quit. Oh well. I live about 1-2 mins away from the Ernesettle track. Haven't ridden it in over a year and word is its like a flat motocross track. Thats £20 but its more of a track than Birxton. Havent even watched down there since I last rode but yeah, sounding good.

There is a track near Kingsteinton. Correct me if I am wrong but I think Whiteway is up there. Thats a proper motocross track though. Proper tracks do practice days at the start of the season so keep your ears peeled.

since the thread started i've done a few days of the brixton tracks (first time i properly rode my 520 on that) and it was pretty awesome.

also did an enduro day thing in truro. trailered 2 bikes down. that was pretty cool too. more free than the track, but its an all vehicles area.

both the above are £10 a day.

theres so many green lanes its unreal if you cross the border into cornwall. my commute has become a partial laning exped.

i didnt realise there were so many locals with offroaders.

something should be sorted about that.

i know where the Ernesettle track is but unsure where the brixton track is.


As for Kingsteignton yeah there is a proper track there but it has closed now because the end of the season.

Matt - I would like to go green laning but as my bike is not road legal and nor do i have a bike licence (yet) its abit hard.

Brixton track is near Plymstock Morrisons. Carry on along that road towards the Elburton pub and go straight on. It'll take you through loads of roads and you'll come to a village called Brixton (hence the name) I think its the turning (left) after the Mitsubishi Garage. If you fancy going there I would recommend getting directions cos you probs have to turn somewhere before Brixton haha.

other than the tracks and enduro areas, i dont think theres much in the way of laning, as most of it incorporates road and offroad riding.

my advice would be to go to brixton, pay the money, watch for 10 mins or so, find someone who looks shit then follow them.
