I'm reconstructing a dingy old road underneath railway arches in Bethnal Green at the moment. It's a dark granite sett road with grimy, bird crap covered footways. For years it's been full to the brim with half worked on cars from the local garages (including the cockney and indian bloke off the telly who make cars for celebrities).

Anyway, done all the preliminary design and consultation stuff and the first thing I had to do was clear the cars, close the road, then block it at each end with timber baulks to stop them coming back.

Most moved of their own accord after I wandered in and out of numerous workshops explaining what was happening. A few we dragged with chains out from under the arch so they could be lifted onto lorries and taken to the local pound. However, one black cab was left because it only had three wheels, it also had no numberplates.

The parking section who got rid of the remaining cars didn't want to know because of it's lack of wheel, so I reported it as an abandoned vehicle and said it was a danger to the kids who walked past it to the nearby school. The abandoned car people came and took it, storing it for a few weeks in case an owner ever turns up.

Turns out it was being used as a knocking shop by the local errr, ladies of the night. I did wonder why it was full of cushions, blankets and the doors were unlocked.

I know, I do feel bad. Turns out the drug injectors were using it during the day as well. It was a center of social interaction and I ruined it. It was however in the way of the new kerbs I was having put in.

About 4 months ago I walked past a window of a ground floor flat that had a mouse running up and down the curtains (an old blanket actually). He was merrily hunting and catching all the flies trapped his side.

I watched him enjoying his little life for a while then it dawned on me that there was an awful lot of flies the other side of the glass. Try as I might I couldn't get to the front door (the other side of a locked security gate) to see if everything was alright. I suspected there might be a dead body inside that had lain undiscovered for a long time.

On the way back to the office I called in to the environmental health and asked them to check it out.

I found out a week later that the occupant was alive and well and a real window licking looney. The housing association had been getting complaints from neighbours for nearly a year but had done nothing about it. Environmental health calling was the last straw and they evicted him.

I felt really bad cos they exterminated the little mouse and quite possibly his whole extended family. I'm minding my own business next time. When I hit and killed a deer on my bike a few years back everyone kept whispering 'you killed Bambi' at me. It had just died down and now it's, 'you killed Mickey' wherever I go.

Laughing you're turning out to be some kind of super hero that sorts out the bad end of society, builds new infrastructure for our great country and just occasionally finds himself accidentally using his powers to kill innocent animals instead, which no doubt throws your entire life and meaning in to question as you battle to once more rise when we need you the most.

Keep up the good work Thumbs Up

I can't wear my pants on the outside though, they are too frayed and grubby. Neutral

If I see a dwarf or a hunchback (you get all sorts in the east end) I shall run very quickly in the other direction.

Not quite.

A girl working (on her own, or with a receptionist who does not "work") is legal.

But more than one girl working in the same property, even if there is only one per day, constitutes a brothel. Even if there is only ever one girl on any one day, having different girls on different days, even if the receptionist is the same, makes it a brothel, which is (still) illegal.

Never visited a prostitute, but if i wanted to, i'd like somewhere nice
to enjoy myself. And the men/women need somewhere safe to work.
Y'think by now they'd get over it and legalise prostitution.

Pat
Never say never
