A lot of hassle for something that's going to be mostly hidden.

Not worth the risk IMO, wouldn't like to see what happens if it were to fail under heavy braking, or going over a pothole etc...

Quite a common part to customise as they can be easily milled from billet. Some people just do the top yoke and keep the original bottom.

It is almost certainly easiest to make the yokes but press the stem out of the original set, then you only have one hole that has to be done to ultra-fine tolerance for the interference fit.

You even have the option of altering the rake angle if you want by drilling the holes for the forks at an angle. This is how they do chops in Germany because the TUV takes a dim view of people cutting and welding frames.

I replaced the bottom yoke on mine, by one a friend crafted for me. If you trust your own handiwork, then yeah go for it, knock one out! Thumbs Up

What do you lot think, cool or stupid?

Does your bike suffer from weak and heavy yokes Confused.
If not, then stupid. Might as well just get a carbon fibre-stick on cover as above, will impress the same people just as much Wink.

Are you going to test it for better strength than original? Do you have a good knowledge of the physics behind it to know yours will be stronger?

Thanks,

I take it they are the metal coverings at the top of the frame and suspension struts ... ?

They aren't coverings they are structural. Its the bit with three holes in it that holds the fork legs to the frame. There are two of them, the upper and lower yoke.

Because I find your posts dreary in the extreme, and I don't feel like reading them.

Plus I dislike people creating new accounts merely to circumvent the karma system.

I rated his post funny because I expected you to not read it, after setting him to an enemy Smile.
Anyway, it was fairly obvious his old account was being 'abused' using the ratings system by some people, just as his new one, I have noticed, is Tut Tut.

Not liking someone doesn't have to preclude you from answering their questions, ya'know!
