Right, for the 1st time in my life I have a home PC the broadband gets switched on tomorrow, and I'll be wanting to download music (primarily to replace a shitload of CDs lost).

So where do you guys recommend? I've done a search on here to no avail, and google don't help too much - how do I know which is good??

So yes, I'm turning to you guys to let me know of decent sites, legal, grey, or dodgy, which have a wide variety of music, are reliable, virus free and easy to use.

Thanks!

Only ever done single songs tbh, find a good version on youtube, bang it in Vixy.net and convert it to what you need, takes a couple of seconds, done, cd albums I just pay a quid for...

mp3fiesta.com, 5 cents for most tracks (you have to input $20 to start your account). I've had shedloads from them, all good quality stuff, latest hits as well as older stuff. I use a 3rd-party program to manage my iPod, so no more dealing with iTunes trash software. Thumbs Up

www.btjunkie.org and utorrent.

Recording from youtube or other video sites is slow.

Cut price sites selling albums for download aren't legal, you're just paying some russian gang for something they downloaded for free.

Bit Torrent is the easy answer. Smile

It costs 5 cents, but for your money you get exactly the same as what you can download for free on other sites.

Getting the album for free is better than buying each track for 5 cents.

For 5 cents per track (less if you buy the entire album) I avoid all the tedious bollocks and frustration involved with the shite that is teh torrentz.

Want a track...go to fiesta, find it, download it, listen to it, within 60 seconds usually. 5 cents, that's about three pence. Oh noes, the expense, I best go torrent it! Laughing

T1, I save the proper spelling for special occasions. For all else there's master...oh, hang on...there's the v, saving my karma-cookies from going into the red and getting auto-banned. For the hundredth fvcking time. Tut Tut

A Usenet subscription, combined with www.nzbsrus.com and www.binsearch.com.

Sure, I pay $25 a month for my subscription, but considering that in the last 18 months I've downloaded 2.6TB of stuff (music/games/films/applications), it's worth it in my opinion. Downloads are always at my maximum speed, and the amount of content is staggering.

I will never understand the attraction of Usenet, you're paying to steal something... that doesn't make sense. Laughing

It's not hard to have your connection at maximum speed. Using torrents isn't some weird black magic, anyone who's half competent using the internet should be able to pick it up quite easily. Very Happy

yes but on torrent you aint guaranteed to get max connection speed you also may be waiting for days for that last little bit of the dl you need to complete. and you also have to upload etc to keep the peeps happy. And the retention is way way less.

nah ill stick with ng ta Smile

Go find the track 'Albatross' by Judy Collins on a torrent. Or 'Lydia' by Dean Friedman. And if you do, see if it's a live seed. And if it is see if it'll come in at more than 1kb per week.

Torrent...great for this week's latest game, for anything older watch your beard grow while it downloads. Assuming you can find anyone seeding it.

Found both and downloading both. Thumbs Up

Judy Collins is seeming a bit slow but I spent all of about 2 seconds looking for a torrent. If it was something I wanted then either I'd spend a bit longer finding somewhere faster otherwise I just leave it running and in a few minutes it's done.

For popular torrents, I agree - but for older content that has very few seeders it can be a nightmare! I also find NGs are better for cutting edge stuff too; a lot of leechers feeding off 1 or 2 seeders reduces speeds drastically.

airmp3.net is good for downloading singles, you just right click on the song, save as, and it downloads to your pc, just be sure to check if it's an MP3 file, as people do put dodgy files on there.

Like Ste said, only took a few secs to find. What were you searching for then? Razz

Post the links then.

Easy.

Go to www.btjunkie.org

Then search for Albatross Judy Collins and tick the file scan box. Fourth result down contains the track Albatross.

Then search for Lydia Dean Friedman and again tick the file scan box. The first result contains the track Lydia. And the second result seems to be a bit faster.

Next weeks lesson... how to tie your own shoe laces. Smile

No, I don't think so. When I searched for those tracks on torrents a few months ago...nada.

Rather than wait for the torrents to randomly provide whatever it is I'm looking for, at some random point in time, at a speed faster than a snail crawling backwards through it's own congealed slime, I'll pay 5 cents (3 pence) and get it NOW, when I want, at a speed that gives it to me in seconds. And without having to worry about virii or trojans.

Shoe-laces, well and truly tied, I thank you very much. Laughing

I guess I got fed up looking after the first ten.

Fiesta, it's always just one click away. 5 cents. Simples.
