The 'Death bike' is getting closer, but its not right, the frame must be bent from my impact.
Just wondering if anyone knows any companys with Jigs or would it be cheaper to buy a frame?
Also what do i need to do to prep it should it be jigged?

It certainly won't be cheaper to buy a new frame, but it is not usually advisable to straighten a bent aluminium frame.

If its steel then its no problem. If I were you I'd be on the phone to some frame straightening people and ask them.

Ally... If i bought a new frame, it would be 100% straight well so than an ebay or breakers item.
I dont want to sell the bike, i've become... attached to the thing, its not often i have to opertunaty to have a 2nd chance.

Hi

2nd hand frame has probably also come from a crashed bike so a fair chance it is bent as well. Their main selling point is to give a stolen bike a new identity.

There are places that can check them and depending on the damage straighten them

Try John Warrington near York

All the best

Srad frames are cheap. You'll probably be able to pick one up for about £200. What makes you think its bent?

Stress mark in the ally and the fact nothing lines up, huge gap between seat and tank, tank wont line up to the frame propperly, bike leans over far too much and is on its balance point, nose cone and fairing bulge. The frame is bent.
Anywhere in the northwest that Jig's frames? and what will i need to do to prep it?

(Link to crashed bike frame)

Its been crashed matt, And £200+ to a regular punter which i'm not.
I'd be better off bending mine back tbh because HPI clear or not, you just cant tell how badly a frame has been damaged in a crash.

Laughing

ok, you go and get your frame jigged where it will work harden and be much more likely to crack under general use.

if the advert says its straight, thats legal grounds. if it isnt, money back.

my SRAD went through hell and stayed straight. it smashed head on into a foot high kerb at about 30, then another time i flipped it at about 40 and it cartwheeled down the road a bit.

after all that, passed an MOT. its only the wheel alignment that matters after all.

You say its only wheel alignment, but not when nothing will mount up propperly its not. Rolling Eyes
You see, you kinda missing my point, i hit a tree head on, my forks were so badly bent they had to be pressed straight but turned around for the bike to sit right. The frame is bent, no doubt at the head stock if not the little bends at the front aswell. Frames arn't as strong as people think, but you can get lucky some times. I've seen alot of bikes crashed and if often ends in tears... or a new bike.

i dont think you're quite getting the point...
new frame = unjigged and straight.
old frame = jigged and weakened.
price will be about the same at a complete guess.

also. have you checked the subframe? fuel tank mounts to that IIRC, and if thats bent, it'll throw the whole lot out of whack by eye.

the forks cant have been that badly bent if they could be rolled straight. the GSXR needed new forks, as did the R6 as they were so bent that the stanctions creased.

New forks fitted, as yes, severly creased, bluge even 10mm, and a new frame £800+ if your talking new new at a punters guess. An old frame will be weakend anyway we look at it really unless they tell the truth and the engine did actually pop. I guess the subframe could be bent and jacked back into place, but whats to say my headstock still isnt bent? i need to measure one, side by side. but that to could still be bent.

Hi

Depending on how bent the original frame is I would prefer a straightened one to a 2nd hand one.

If crashed the chances are the 2nd hand frame is a bit bent as well (and good luck trying to get money back through Ebay in that case, let alone covering your time plus any chassis bearings you waste rebuilding it to find it is bent). And it could be that the replacement frame is straight because it has been straightened (and even brand new bikes might not be perfectly straight).

Checking a frame to check it was straight cost £80 (a couple of months ago). Not sure how much to straighten it if it needs it. It isn't just important if the wheels are in line (you could pretty much bodge that with the chain adjusters). You could twist a frame so that the wheels moved out of line as the suspension compressed.

A lot more work to do a complete strip down to transfer everything over rather than to just straighten a frame.

All the best

Keith

Why am i a retard matt, please explain, The bike means a bit to me, i want to keep it and run it, not ruin it like you normally do. Although your R6 will actually look nice. I could risk getting a frame from ebay but i doubt i'll get anything better. I'll get its geometry checked (free! i know you just jizzed right?) if not dirt cheap or from another SRAD, It won't be hard. Calm down... and dont act like a retard, its boring.

Only because it would cost less than a brand new frame but i'm not suggesting thats a massive no no, Money is no problem, i'll see how much a brand new one will cost tommorow. Thumbs Up
