I am not sure what the purpose of this thread is?

Are you just bragging you have a rideout none of us are invited to? Thinking

er .. I didn't contact you to come on a rideout I had no way of knowing existed in the first place and that by the same measure didn't have an open invite to instigate a 'contact me'??? I mean wtf? Shocked

I don't ever remember being invited by you to this (or any other) ride* ..... but gotta admit I am a keyboard rider Embarassed

If you look back at some of my postings i ALWAYS offer newbies a ride out ,just took Nottm Forest other week and offered Rit when he gets a bike (now got one)also a lad from Newcastle was due to ride this weekend but blew his bike up so the offers are on there ,you only need to post up or reply to mine as its always an open invite for first 6/8 riders

Nope, still don't see any invites* - you are going to have to point me in the right direction I am afraid. Confused

Garyd has frequently posted that he rides out with mates every weekend and has posted his mobile number so that folk can join in and he has explained where he is based and where he rides. If it's not local to you or you don't wish to travel to it fine, but no need to just discount or dismiss his threads with posts like these - just ignore them if they don't affect you.

What he doesn't do is post a thread with a date and a formal invite in the same way as in the SE section. It doesn't mean that you aren't invited and he doesn't 'beg' for folk to join him, it's up to us to chose as he's going out anyway.

He has also always said he is trail rider and not an enduro rider and rides a legal bike on legal lanes hence the occasional joshing about having a small bike versus and more race tuned enduro bike. That's clearly his sense of humour which is not offensive and if you don't happen to get it, it hardly hurts - there is frequent name calling in the name of humour by others that is all supposed to be acceptable.

If you can't remember or be bothered to keep up with what's going on in this section fair enough, but don't post negative rubbish putting others down.

The guy's excited about his rideout just the same as any of the rest of are when we organise rideouts - back off and take a long hard look at what you post and how it might look to others before you type.

Er what Shocked ... I haven't posted 'negative rubbish' I was asking for clarification as it was not an invite or a ride report ... it was just a statement ...

I enjoy reading ride reports, I like to be invited to things, this read to me as neither, so wasn't really sure what it was ...

Let me clarify what I mean

This is a statement:-

"Got a nice 8 to take out on Sunday all sorts from newbies on KTM 450 to heros on ..........KTM450 and all manner of stuff in between ,the photos wont lie"

This is a ride report:-

"Had a nice 8 to take out on Sunday all sorts from newbies on KTM 450 to heros on ..........KTM450 and all manner of stuff in between ,the photos dont lie" {then consequent photo posting}

This is a question/Invite:-

"Got a nice 8 to take out on Sunday all sorts from newbies on KTM 450 to heros on ..........KTM450 and all manner of stuff in between - if anyone is interested in joining us, then it is up in XYZ, give me a shout. We will be taking lots of photos to post up after!"

The second two have a purpose, the first, well what is it 'saying'???

If garyd actually meant it as some off form of open invite, then he could clarify it at that point - which in a very odd way is exactly what he did!! Razz

Dave me and my mate will take you out ,come down A1 to Grantham and ride with us telephone number ,we go every sunday ive plenty for you to go at.

14/11/09
.....come now dont be shy lets ride........next Sunday hay any sunday

28/10/09
im between Nottm and Grantham and ive sent you a pm ,ill take you out on lanes i go EVERY Sunday

08/08/09
Any out there ??? call telephone number if you are up for a ride out ,i go every sunday 9am-2pm,i know lots of routes locally, legal riders with quiet bikes please.

20/03/09
Anyone up for a trip round Lincs/Leics??i know plenty and will lead ,all must be road legal and quiet exhausts

Let's face it no he didn't PM you personally, but then why should he? Even when rideouts are dated and clearly titled for some unknown reason you seem to think you deserve personal invites!

My post was merely pointing out that Garyd has made an effort on a number of occasions to organise rides his way and his statement was that he was just that he was excited about this weekend's rideout, which incidentally is full at 8 as he restricts the numbers so not an invite. I have no idea why you felt the need for any clarification as to whether you were invited or not or whether it was an invite or not - does every post in here have to be an invite or a ride report? It was just a statement and required no further comment than have a good ride and we'll look forward to seeing the pics.

I don't really see the point in posting saying that something is happening if it's not an invite. "the fact that you arent on it is that you didnt contact me to come " is completely valid, but I must have missed the thread where you invited people on this ride out. Wink You've invited people on previous ride outs but I don't get how people are meant to know when and where you're organizing rides if you don't say.

But, it doesn't really matter, even if anyone does go I doubt they'd have been able to keep up with gary on his cfr230. Razz

Should be good though just because of the amount it's been raining this week.

The others are NOT open invites - if they are an invite at all, they are pretty specifically directed actually. He stated he always made his rides open to the first 6/8 riders - which I can't see is true, or at least common knowledge/obvious.

The above one however is an open invite .... all be it 8 months old and therefore require quite some digging*. This isn't his fault, but being 8 months old, as such posted about 3 months before I even thought about green laning/got my first bike, so not like I would have picked up on it. - my bad for not following ALL threads/posts past, present and future! Razz

*Thanks for 'pointing me in the right direction' to one though, that is the sort of thing I was after Thumbs Up

That is a hefty statement - Give me an example of when this has happed on here please.

I don't think there is a rule that says that - no (and I don't think there should be!).

But it is a forum ... if all 'statements' required no further comment then it'd be pretty sh1te/short wouldn't it!! Rolling Eyes

It is also odd to make a 'statement' like that as it doesn't naturally lend itself to conversation - which is what forums are about right??

Its very rare that myself and BlueSV actually agree on anything (the man bought a 2 stroke KTM for f*ks sake .. know what I am saying! Rolling Eyes ) ... but, I have to say that the post confused me a bit.
Not to the point of being offended (as I was aware young Gary is a northerner and far away ride wise)... but I just didnt see what the post was about. Eh?
Its not a report .... and its not an invite ??
I didnt understand the "photos wont lie" bit either ? .. but that may just be my age .. its probably street slang for "have a good time" or something ... Init.

Except when its too cold and snowy ... or too rainy and wet .. or the wives wont let us go out to play. (some of us even use "i got sent the wrong sprocket" as an excuse... but we wont go there)
Apart from that, we are hardcore muthas that RIDE.

That wasnt an invite ... that was a direct challenge to my manlihood.
As soon as my van is sorted, me and my bad boi WR will be making a trip to Garys manor .. tooled up.
(dont worry Gary, I ride like a total pussy and like to bimble along at my own pace Smile )

Have I told you how much I love you all recently ?

It's happened several times on the DGLC. I have no idea in here as I haven't been for any rideouts through BCF hence you haven't needed to contact me and complain.

Tonka wrote:

Selective quotes don't help your case. It was a fairly cryptic post but I don't think it deserved the comments you made and if you wished to converse you could have asked where they were headed, type of terrain etc.

Given the amount of complete drivel posted in various areas of BCF I find it surprising that half of them illicit any replies let alone conversation. I don't understand why you feel the need to pick at someone in the one section that's always seemed quite civilised, especially as the OP seems to put quite a lot of effort into his riding.

Silky does your van drive itself south to Dorset or only ooop norf? There's some good stuff here too, seeing as we've braved it up to your neck of the woods recently!

Once the van is running again ... and I have Christmas out of the way (I am soo excited, I have asked for a GoProHD and a new Arai helmet and some new Alpinestar boots and ... apologies, I got carried away at the mention of xmas) .... anyway - come Feb 2010 I hope to be visiting many of the distant foreigners on BCF. Thumbs Up

(especially when I have my helmet cam stuff Smile )

You guys need to seriously relax.

I ride with young Laughing Garyd most weekends - hes a top bloke who has invested an awful amount of time into working out some very good local routes (all legal).
New riders are always welcome regardless of ability.

So just to remove any doubt

We ride most sundays start around 9.30 (grantham / melton area)

Would all forum members please accept this as a formal invitation to join us. Please use the forum or pm myself or Garyd for more details

I trust this removes any confusion and may encourage those of you who are new to greenlaning to try some new and interesting routes.

I think this has gone far enough, so let me sum things up from my side.

1. You may have got it instantly, but I (and at least 2 others) didn't really see the meaning or purpose of the OP. All I did in my first post was ask for clarification (and point out how it came across to me) what is the harm in that???

2. garyd consequently said it was an invite and he always invited us/me out - I pointed out (perhaps not very well) that it wasn't an invite, and I certainly have never 'felt' like one of his posts have come out as an open invite. Perhaps something for garyd to think about in future???

3. I have noting against garyd*, in fact I actually stuck up for him once when silky666 was ruffling his feathers in a man-off Laughing I actually like silky666, but I do find it funny to wind up his Neanderthal ego from time to time!! Mr. Green

4. I have never expected a personal invite to a rideout on this or any other forum. The only time I expect (or at least be disappointed if they didn't) to get a invite or a reminder i.e. a 'what you doing this weekend/seen this/I fancy doing this, you game?' is from someone I consider a biking friend/mate. At the end of the day, it is that sort of thing that elevates them to a 'friend' status isn't it? Thinking

*Although I have nothing against garyd per-say, I do feel he has 'little bike syndrome' and seems to perpetually feel the need to bring it up, be it in a jokey or more confrontational manner - which is a little irritating. To me it is a bit like the short guy in a pub that challenges all the taller dudes to show how hard he is. The tall guys couldn't give a feck how tall/short he was, they are all just down the pub having a drink/good time - that is all that matters to them!! That coupled with this perpetual 'keyboard riders' thing is just really irritating.

Just to clarify, I find that e-characteristic a little irritating, but I have no 'problem' with garyd (past or present).

garyd - dougalthedog has covered you well there, but as not everyone will have read this thread (present and future) I still suggest any future invite posts are explicitly stated as such (only needs 2 words added "everyone welcome"). Thumbs Up If just an 'I'm excited about this weekends ride, wish us luck, a ride report to follow' then perhaps make that more obvious for non-clairvoyants/retards like me!! Thumbs Up
