Maybe it is a glorious road when you ride something a lot faster than a 125cc!!! It's possibly one of my favourite roads in the south. I know loads of bikers who use it frequently just because. Smile

Glad you got home safely!

I was thinking we should have sorted you out some sort of trophy - that was an epic journey. Though why you didn't use the A27 is anyone's guess...

Hmm, I suppose that qualifies an answer Laughing The A272 is my favourite road, I love it, it's great and fantastic and all, it's just that on that Sunday it was gusting (at least 15MPH winds), pitch dark (lights on the CG are not very good), freezing cold, raining buckets and flooded in so many parts I had no visibility and thought I was very much a goner on some of the narrow twistys. Very hard to describe how bad those conditions actually were but I'm quite surprised I kept it rubber side down.

And anyway, the A27 is boring dual carriage way stuff that I've done too many times before. The A272 I've done at 70MPH the whole way before in the dry sunshine with a lot of overtaking but I think I averaged like... 40MPH in the hazardous rain.

I really don't have a death wish or anything but I can't wait for the snow to come this year, I think I'm going to have some interesting adventures on the CG if I can find the time come the new year. I've never been to Scotland before.

Also on the long right I struggled with the kart I was in to use full throttle the whole way round. Take the shallowest line I could and on full throttle the back end was slipping enough to put me into the tyres at the end of the bend (and did at least once).

I was on full throttle most laps round that back bit, and after the second apex I was slamming into the wall quite violently on some laps even with large bodyweight shift and going quite a bit sideways. Not efficient way of going round I guess, but was having far too much fun.

Made such a complete dogs dinner of those following three tight corners every lap anyway it probably didn't matter much Laughing

The guides i was reading were on www.karting1.co.uk @ G

I'd be up for that thruxton one definately, shout if you go Thumbs Up

There are some on the previous page, but I do agree that any more would be greatly appreciated!

I have a load of videos, the pics are fairly pointless as I suspected they would be. I'm busy with work and tired though and I'll have to convert them all and upload them somewhere so as and when...

I've always been up for Karting at Thurxton

I can confirm it is awesome.

I've been twice, the track is excellent, as are the karts, and consistently so. Too many times do you get the duff karts at the smaller places which just piss people off, or used as an excuse!

Thruxton is expensive tho.

We also had the doors open at the end of the main straight which made it a blind turn - I blame for the fact that I clotheslined a guy on the minimotos with my knee.

that track in the pic looks way quicker than the one we did, it has loads of slow turns.

If you go to minimoto.co.uk and look on the track page, there is an animated track layout, was it that one you did?

The back doors are always open when we go aswell.

The blind turn is awesome fun

I did ask about closing the doors, but they said it gets too smoky too quickly.

The layout is not on the link you gave Ciaran...but (my extremely basic sketch Laughing ) is the route we took. Start finish line on the left.

I'd say that 0.48 behind your karting time is pretty impressive if you ask me. I've heard bikers say that after a good track day their skills on the road and everywhere are suddenly quite improved for a while, like cornering, smooth gear changing and judging distances etc. What's crazy is that after that mini moto session and the epic ride home I'm convinced that bombing around town has become a lot easier, or with a lot less thought involved for me like it's second nature.

trackdays made me a slower road rider if anything, touring actually helped my riding almost as much as trackdays if not more.

Getting the insanity out elsewhere makes you more conscious of your mortality and risks on the road i find.
