So I've been toying with the idea of selling the Kwak and maybe going for something completley different. The one thing that has caught my eye more than anything is the Tuono.

I'd love to take one out but none of the dealers locally have any in.

So just wanted to know if any of you guys own or have ridden one and if so are they any good?

Also I've never ridden a V-twin before so not sure what to expect from the motor other than the difference in power delivery.

This wouldn't be my main day to day ride as that's what I use the DR for.

Thanks in advance. Thumbs Up

I'm ashamed to say that I now prefer the twin on the TRX over the IL4 on the ZX7r, takes a little change in rising style but not as bad as you may think.

Touno's do look like a nice bike, been a few threads on here in the past. Not a popular bike but not a common bike either.

Yeah I have to admit I was never really a fan of naked bikes but the Tuono is just in a different league, especially the factory model.

The problem is I had the Kwak off the road for about a year and rode the DR everywhere in its place. I then developed a liking for the upright riding position, even questioned for a bit whether or not I could get back in to riding a sportsbike. I have since started riding the Kwak again, although probably picked the worst time of year to do so.

I tried Bandit's and similar but they don't really do anything for me.

Have to ride with a more 'revvy' style to make up for the lack of low down power on the TRX? Wink

I quite liked my TRX, partly for this and partly because of it's lack of power (well, compared to modern 600s etc.)

Sports based twins tend to be quite lumpy low-down. They also tend to lead you to believe that staying in the midrange is faster because it 'feels' right, when the reality is you need to keep the revs up to make progress.
The Aprilia's generally have pretty decent chassis/handling.

I missed the speed and scream of the revs but now I don't mind cruising at 80-90 rather than 100+, could be good for my licence too. Semi naked seems a good plan too.

Most of my initial reservations about going twin have been washed away and I've got a nice little bike. Don't get me wring I'd get a bigger one if I could justify it but for now no regrets.

While it only revs to 8k rpm, I still found that it's quite 'revvy', due to the 5 valve head apparently - need to be above 4k, which is half revs.
On my zx9 which gets only 50cc extra, but two extra cylinders, it manages good smooth power from 4k also, but in this case it's 1/3rd revs (the fueling is a bit off below that.)

I'd say the TRX engine character is quite different from both the big 'sports' twins and commuter orientated twins like the SV650.

For a few years I owned sports bikes, the last 2 beingf K4 and K5 GSXR 1000s. I loved them. I only use a bike for pleasure and enjoyment and they certainly provided it. However, after a few moments thinking 'I am going to fast, to often' I re evaluated what I wanted from my bike. Did i need a lightning fast sports bike? Not really. Would I miss it if I got rid of it? Yes definitely!

I had always liked the Mille, but then again, I could quite happily sit on a major road at 130 and not really feel it, just like the gixers. There goes my licence, my job, my house...no thanks.

I did not want to go for a big upright IL4 as I knew they would not be a patch on the gixers. What to do?

I needed something that was not a sports bike, but was going to be 'different'. So I got the 08 Tuono r.

Its a pleasure to ride, still very quick off the mark but, not comfortable at 130 for any length of time, unlike a fully faired sports bike.

It is easy to ride, easy to filter on and great fun in twisties with it having wide bars. You can scratch on it, pop wheelies with ease (if thats your thing) and tootle along nicely if you want. Riding position still feels sporty with the pegs being set back and there aint many sports bikes that will lose it up to 100mph.

I dropped a tooth on the front, put a nice set of akrapovic pipes on and put it on map 2. That got rid of the snatchyness/lumpyness in slow traffic nicely and it sounds good as well.

I have ridden other naked large cc bikes, Fazer, Z1000, GSX 1400 etc and none of them leave me grinning as much as the Tuono does.

Would I go back to an IL4 1000cc? Yes probably, but right now I am more than happy.

You can tell from not even looking at the clocks when the revs reach 4k, the engine note changes as do the characteristics.

the thing that put me off getting one was the insurance cheapest quote was £1300 (for a 3-4K bike). Crying or Very sad

(although the one i looked at had a harris full exhaust system which was so loud it made a child i passed on the test ride cry)

That just makes me want one even more!

Selling the Kwak would be the hardest thing for me. I've had it since new and been to Assen and Nurnburgring on it.

However it's the only financially viable way I'm ever gonna afford the Aprillia.
