I reckon you are allowed them,
As when I bought both my Shark helmets they came with reflective stickers and instructions on where to put them for the helmet to be legal in France Spain and Italy (I think),
They didn't go on my shark though they went on my commuting nitro helmet and I've never been pulled yet for it...
I think its the same delio with flashing lights in that you can wear them on your person but cannot have them on your bike.
My field sheet and Belstaff jackets both have scotchlight reflective panels on them so I doubt it is illegal.
But don't take my word for it, ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Personally I think having stuff that can look like blue flashing lights is out of order. However, there was a recent thread where people provided evidence that it's not illegal I believe - do have a search through to check it.
This is my attempt (design and construction courtesy of bendy) at making my helmet more visible, this picture taken with a flash:

And just with ambient light:

What about possible damage to the lid?
I was told to be really careful about sticking stuff to it in case the solvent damaged it...? |

Sunlight damages the lid too, as does wearing it, best not to do those either .
If it worried you, you could apply a small amount and send it to a lab to be tested .
Reality is that it's unlikely and a decently reflective lid may well offer more 'safety' than any lost. |
