I've seen frames, and i've seen engines, but i reckon i win the largest cargo competition...
Formula for disaster:
1 Cheap-ass Student,
62kg of luggage (coincidently the same as the student)
1 new 500cc Kawasaki
200mile Journey
Winds averaging 35mph and gusting to 55mph
Torrential downpours
No more than 5cm steering at the bars
Total (THIS!):

Aye, it was scary, No I wont be doing it again and yes, i did sit between the tank and the bag. It was very uncomfortable and i no longer feel at risk of having children ____________________ Current Bike: 1996 Yamaha TRX850 (The Japanese-Ducati One).

Aye, it was scary |
Not to compete but to join in...
The first year I had the XJR, I had the missus on the back, tent, 2 x roll matts, 2 x sleeping bags, 80 litre panniers (full of clothes and camping equipment), full tank bag. Travelling along the A55, fine rain that was getting through the zips on my clothes and a wind that was blowing me into the middle lane. Spend most of the journey riding at an angle. All this on a bike with fcuked head bearings. We never even got to where we were going. The rain & wind wouldn't let up. The fog rolled in. We stopped at the first camp site we found as it got dark and we didn't know where we were. (Turned out we were only eight miles from where we heading).
Scared? Damn right I was. Terrified would be a better word. I actually wanted to just get off the bike and walk away from it.
Had the same thing going home on the roads around Snowdon (twisty roads that I didn't want to be on), made my way to the A55 and the sun was out, it was dry with no wind. I could hear my missus laughing because I was punching the air. |

that lot weighed more than me, 2 5ltr petrol cans (one hidden on the other side) a sleeping bag, tent, pannier bags filled with clothes, a camping stove and food. The tank nag was full with the map, phone chargers, spare phone, spare bits and pieces, satnav, lord of the rings trilogy book and 3 bottles of water. I also had a backpack which was filled with tools, torch, more water, oil, lightbulbs a spare chain. Was still returning over 135mpg with all that really really, I did 280 odd miles on one tank, I praise the man who designed the CG ____________________ '84 TS50X, '91 TZR125, '89 CBR400RR, '91 VFR400R NC30, '98 R1

I once carried an huge load of small cuddly toys (don't ask) from Canterbury to the Isle of Sheppey. Wasn't particularly heavy but the bulk was immense. Had two large top boxes on the bike, stuff bungeed on top of both, throw overs packed full and a tank bag full to bursting. Additionally I had a two massive holdall thingies round me (one each side), also stuffed full. If I'd come off I'd have had a soft landing for sure. How the bollocks I didn't either come off or get nicked is beyond me Wish I had a picture. |
