PostPosted: 14:25 - 23 Jun 2004    Post subject: Visor Inserts? Reply with quote

Well having popped down to my local dealer today to get a new Visor insert for my helmet, I was imformed that they had been instructed to remove them from the shelves (by the local trading standards) since some sort of accident happened and they thought the visor insert was to blame for the accident.

I hope that they don't make them illegal, as its on the only "safe and legal" way that we can block excessive sunlight out!
And I'm certainly not wearing sunglasses.

Anyway, I am just wondering what your views on the subject are etc.

Get a tinted/black visor and carry your clear one with you. Thats what I do.

I'd rather be able to see in bright sun than obey some stupid law.

I don't think I would be able to find one to fit my Xpeed Helmet, unless Shoei Visors fit?

I liked visor inserts too, cos I could just rip em out and store them easily too!

Try a different bike shop for them then.

Or a mail order company, most of them will have the inserts.

nah i think there brilliant for the low sun times of the day, because i wear normal glasses i cant wear sunglasses so the inserts are my best bet, i think theres an law 18% light law or something like that, not 100% sure on the law detail but i'm sure someone hear is and can explain it! Very Happy.

I'd do what others have suggested and get a dark visor and carry your clear one around in a bag. To be honest I've tried those inserts before and while they might seem cheap, if you add up how many you go through over the years it would be cheaper (in the long run) to buy a proper tinted visor. As long as you look after it of course. Very Happy

i've had 2 inserts in the last few months, and i only got the other one because i didn't like green. thing is, i wouldn't want to pay £30 for an iridium visor only to scratch it the next day :/

So take care of it. Thumbs Up

I've had mine 12 months now and have managed to keep it scratch free.

That's bollocks. I've used them for years without any hassle. Best thing about them is if it gets dark you can just whip 'em out and ride home with a clear visor. I wouldn't want to faff around carrying a clear visor in a bag or any of that toss.

they are cack

they look cack

they crinkle up like cack

they lift up with a decent blast of air up the visor

they never fit flush in a double curved visor and catch on the top when you lift it

they never fit decent visors without cutting and trimming and fucking about

they are cack and look cheap and cack

they are cack

Suppose it depends if you've got a lid with a QR visor or not?

I've used both and carrying a spare visor involves less dicking about than taking off an insert and carfully rolling it up so you can use it again. Then riding home trying not to crease it.

You obviously lack the most basic intelligence required to fit them correctly. Not the visor insert's fault is it really? Wink

they don't work on Shoei helmets without mega fucking about - they need trimming all ove rhte place to make them fit

a Shoei CX1 visor takes less effort to swap than a stupid bit of sticky film

they look cack anyway

I've got a Shoei. All it needs is two straight cuts to get them in perfectly. Laughing I'll admit that you need to do it more than once to get the hang of it, but once you know how to get them to fit they're a piece of piss.

And the black ones look okay. The good thing about the Shoei's is the way the quick release system looks black, so with the insert it looks like a proper black visor Very Happy

They're a faff.

Can change the visor on a Shoei in about 10 seconds flat - and you don't have to bother carrying the spare visor around unless you're a goody two-shoes.

Is it beyond the wit of these manufacturers to make one with a polaroid visor? Clear in dim light, darkened in bright light conditions. That would keep everyone happy.

Yay!

I've just come back from ESB Motorcycles in Bolton, and they had some instock, I got two Bob Heath Visor Inserts for £7.50!

And there better than the Oxford ones I normally use as the adhesive isn't on the insert its self!

/me is happy now, its a pity I can't use it as its now pissing down. Sad

They're not that bad. I use one for my arai, fits perfectly without trimming, is not illegal, looks wicked (mirrored insert).

I can't complain and they only cost a few quid. True, the proper visors are better, but when you're a skankey student the insert is a quick, cheap, good replacement...
