My cat just pegged out

I have known she was going to die for the last three days, she had taken to a bucket in the kitchen with my clothes in it. Yesterday she took water from me tonight she tried but choked when I tried, she died about half a hour ago.
Poor old Maddie, she was a stupid thing but I will miss her and her broken ear, however I am not going to replace her as I do not like cats. Cats have always been the debris of relationships with chicks to me, the girl leaves and the cat stays to remind me of what once was.
Please do not patronise me with sympathy for the cat's death, ours was not a relationship built on love, she killed rats and I thought about her previous owner. I will miss her in my own way but now I must tell Syma that she is dead.

Cats are great for vermin control but I can't stand them personally. (I too have a cat).

We lost a cat under a car a couple of years back. One less cat as far I was concerned. I wasn't bothered but I did sort of miss it for a day or two.

My cat is the product of my two sisters, of which neither has even lived in our house for 3 years now (I live here alone now). Funny how I have my dog for exactly the same reason, sister wanted a dog but realised she was too young and irresponsible to look after it herself in the real world.

So it's just me, the cat and the dog living in this big house.... alone. I guess they remind me of family. If I had the choice I wouldn't look after either of them.

on topic though, I know what you mean about pets your not that close too. We (me and my wife) got 2 rats as we couldn't get a dog. 6 months later we got a dog (6 months test period on a rented house) and the rats were more of a left over. I still fussed them, fed them, trained them etc but 3 months after we got the dog my mum came up to visit with her 3 dogs. One of my mums dogs (the jack russel) managed to get upstairs and dispatched the 2 rats. I felt bad for them as it wasn't a nice way to go, but a small part of me was relieved as I didn't have the hassle of keeping them anymore. I still think about them every once in a while and miss them and their comical little antics.

1) reminded me that I still feel shit and lonely... which made me feel shitter and lonelier

2) brought back the memory of all the pets I've had come and go... here's a list (that isn't exhautive, just the ones off the top of my head)

I think thats all the pets I've loved and lost since childhood, most of them died, a couple of them went to live with other people (stimpy got to 6ft and was still growing, without giving him his own bedroom, he was never going to stay). Wallace went to live with someone my dad works with as he didn't like grommit (my mums jack russel). Found out some years later he was put down for being vicious. Jordan died whilst living with my ex, Katy died 4 weeks after I left my ex and moved out.

Now I feel really shit, off outside for a smoke!

My mate had a cat for a couple years. Some new people moved in next door and they had a dog. Cat jumped over the fence as it had always done, pre nieghbors with dog and was quickly dispatched (actually torn to pieces)

i have a cat... old as the hills she is and still going.. though getting lazier by the day... still eating shit loads though.. have no idea when she'll snuff it but i know i have a pond to dig when she does...

I have two cats and would be gutted if either died, I prefer cats to dogs, they're more intelligent, more independent yet they still show as much affection, albeit in a slightly more intelligent way.

When we recently moved house my cat went walkabout and got lost, I didn't see him for three days and thought that was that until, driving home one night, there he was, sat on the pavement about half a mile from the house. Took him home and he's not strayed far since, I would have been upset if he hadn't re-appeared.

I've also beeng iven a massive tropical aquarium this week by the missus' relatives, it has an 18" plec in it, a Denison barb and two ghost catfish, we're going to stock it up at the weekend with the kids, then it will be TV for the cats

Always been a dog person myself but the wife prefers cats. We have both cat and dog and while I wish the cat no harm it is very aloof where the dog is friendly. If I lost my dog I'd be gutted as she is more of a friend than a pet but the cat I can take or leave.

Crikey, and on your birthday too

Mingles died at almost exactly the same time, at about half an hour to midnight on my last birthday. Totally unexpectedly.

It could be said that I was more than a little bit distraught.

His ashes are still sitting in a box on mr hellkat's windowsill, in fact I talked to him today. I just haven't plucked up the courage to take him down and sprinkle him under the tree with my other dead cat, Grillparzer.

I've got cats and just the one dog now and they're all really affectionate and have funny little charaters of their own. The neighbour has started looking after a dog and it keeps chasing the cats - luckily they can dash into the safety of the back garden, but I'm not very happy about it! I get very upset when I lose my pets as they're my little friends. It's all the horses fault that I ended up getting into motorbikes - I was too upset to buy another one when she died so got the bike instead. Mind you I think my Honda maybe on it's last wheels and that's gonna upset me to, so meh?

I also have a tropical fish tank and it's not very well stocked just now. Had a few casualties and haven't replaced so down to 6 cardinal tetras (they have more red than the neon tetras), one orange and black home bred platy, 4 corys (can't rememer which type) and loads of assasin snails. I need to empty it and move it next week as I'm having new carpet then I may think about re-stocking, but nothing clever - it's a happy little community tank!

I never imagine that I might get emotional about fish or birds.

They just seem like, well, animals, rather than pets, to me.
