Very unlucky mate! Sad I have the same excess so I feel your pain.

Although, when my bike went walkies it turned up a few days later, so if it was stolen for joy riding the chances are that not all is lost Thumbs Up when I first reported it I was told to check any local fields etc. I wish I had of now as I would have found it immediately. I ended up just fixing the cosmetic damage that resulted myself rather than go through the insurance route. I hope this ends well enough for the same to happen with you! What bike was it?

ahh nice ill check out the fields,
nothing pricey just a xt125 09 plate and had it from new only 5 months ago though, so the vvalue of the bike should be still relatively like the same as when i bought it? i am fully comp so if bikes not found what will the insurance company do? will them pay me out the value of the bike, i am selling the bike before christmas anyway becuase im halfway through my A2 an want a bigger bike

If you claim they'll either give you a new bike, repair your bike for you (if found) or they might write off your bike if found and beyond economical repair and so they'll give you money or a new bike anyway. And yes, it goes by what they value the bike at.

That's after you pay them the excess and then you will also have lost your NCB Sad Clearly the disk lock wasn't enough!

No, but they will also know that you have previously made a claim, which is what will initially affect your price. No idea how long it will take. I assume you've reported it to the police? They will give you a crime reference number which will be important in this process.

yeah i have a crime reference number,
ive contacted the insurance company and now i have to wait until 15th december until i can have a proper half hour chat with them over the phone about everything. thats over 2 weeks away Sad
ive read the insurance booklet and if you are fully comp one of the options if your bike is stolen and not recovered is that they will replace the bike with a brand new one of the same model, thats if your stolen bike was under 6 months old. that sounds good but it going to take ages to sort out Sad

cant deal with £1.80 bus journeys everywhere Evil or Very Mad

Why the fuck do you have to wait 2 weeks to even discuss your case?

If you were fully comp get on the phone tell them you want your money or replacement bike now, and ask them for a hire bike if it's included.

Bollocks. If you are the first registered owner of a vehicle under 1YEAR old the policy is new for old. By them claiming that only applies for 6 months is taking the piss. I know you qualify anyway however how many people lose out to these chancers Evil or Very Mad

I had a mate who had two bikes nicked from his garage. Both shackled to ground anchors. Lawmowers and other junk deliberately placed in the way to make it more difficult for thieves. Really strong, secure garage door. Garage alarmed. Went down in the morning, both gone. How the fuck do these bastards do it? Evil or Very Mad

Good luck finding your bike :l How the FUCK did they get in to your garage, get a disc lock off and escape with your bike without you or neighbours or passers by noticing? Do you live on a farm in the desert?

The same happened to me when I lived in a different quiet suburban street with disk lock, chain and an alarm!

Put simply, people don't care if it doesn't involve them or their possesions...

Do insurance companies ask for proof of security when you claim?

if you are fully comp you should be entitled to a hire bike. i'd get back on the phone to them asap.

They should bring one out next working day.

If it's a thatcham approved alarm or suchlike then they'll want to see proof, but if the policy says "a D lock, disk lock or chain on it at all times when away from the bike" then there isn't really any proof for those.

How do you work that out then? Every policy has its own terms & conditions and quite clearly in this case owen2200 has read his policy booklet and it states that they only do 'new for old' if your bike is less than six months old. It is down to the insurer whether they include this in their policy terms or not - there is no legal requirement to offer 'new for old' for the first 12 month period when a vehicle is new. Wink

I've got Almax chain and Squire padlock and that's what I have on my policy.

I haven't got any invoice saying that I bought them (lost it somewhere or never got it from Almax Ltd). I've got lots of photos though.
